Weighted Blanket

Ms @Enid was in the market for one a while back.

I am currently in the process of making my own. I hate the lil fucking demon beads that go inside. I am sure they hate me back and don't like my sewing machine much either.

@Enid - If you don't need to pay for shipping, I'd suggest trying the Kohl's one before committing the extra $100 for the one you listed. I made one for an ex-BF and one for my sister. My ex likes his. My sister didn't even give it half a night night before deciding she didn't like it. Cost me probably $100 in materials (material, "demon beads", a duvet cover so she didn't need to wash it frequently) and probably 8 hours in labor for my mom and I for her to use it for like 3 hours. Totally (sarcasm font needed here) worth the investment! *eyeroll*

Hmmmmm the crochet thought has my brain percolating. I might try knitting a beaded blsnket. A cotton yarn for not being too hot and beads every few stitches. I already have a pattern in mind!

Hemlock blanket.

It would be go gorgeous worked in matching colors with slightly iridescent beads.

My current attempt is a quilt with beads and poof mixed in each pocket. But just moving it around to work it I can feel the demon beads settling to the bottom of each pocket.

I got one for Christmas. I can't sleep in my bed with it, but it's fantastic for napping on the sofa! I love it!

Both my wife and daughter love them. We have a 12 pounder and a 15 pounder they both like the heavy one best.
They cannot be machine washed because of the glass beads.
Our cats sleep on them as well so any issues are simply cleaned with the carpet cleaner.

Can't second the crocheted blankets/afghans strongly enough! My Mother was the Queen of Crochet.

I have three *wooly* afghans and one gorgeous silk/cotton thread tablecloth my Mother fashioned for me over the years.

As soon as it starts to get a little chilly at night, out comes one of the afghans and it stays at the bottom of the bed all fall/winter/early spring.

I pull the afghan up around my neck and nestle in for a great night's sleep. Comforted by the weight of the afghan and that my Mother made it. For ME.

Her rheumatoid arthritis finally crippled her hands/fingers/knuckles to the point she could no longer crochet. She persevered as long as she could. Until she just couldn't. Sad day.

They aren't weighted blankets though.

I've never slept under a weighted blanket per se, but, I will say that the weight of my Mother's afghans are far heavier than any other blanket I've slept under.

Since afghans were introduced into the thread by another poster, I thought my comments would be germane to the topic.

If you crochet, or know someone who does, a crocheted afghan made with plain old yarn can be quite heavy and serve as a weighted blankie, without needing demon beads. But it's *a lot* of work.

I would probably benefit from one, but they seem kind of spendy. Is 15lbs about the standard for heavy ones? I’d want a heavy one.

We thought about making one—my wife is pretty good at sewing—but it almost seems just as inexpensive to buy one.

They are awesome.
I live in a tropical climate and I have to crank my air con to artic in summer so I can use it but it's so
worth it with the quality of sleep I get when I get it.
I can say without a doubt I'd be getting none without it.

Wow, I have a 25 lb one! Maybe if I had half the weight I could probably sleep in bed with it, but mine is just too heavy for that.

But give me a thunderstorm outside and a cup of tea and that blanket, and I'm going to say it's better than sex! Almost! Sometimes. Kinda.

Target has the 15 pounder and Olies (A junk store) has the 12 pounder.
It is odd seeing us sleep, she is under 3 bed blankets, a saddle blanket and the weighted blanket and I am nude on top of the covers.
