Pat maybe hateful, but he's no fool. He came into the world the son of Senator, and always wanted to one up Daddy, hence the two failed Presidential runs. His old network used to be called CBN. It was common knowledge that during the days of his early fund raisers, they would simple make up the total pledge amounts in the hopes that would seem more "worthy" as the recycled tapes of the "live" pledge circulated slowly around his old TV network, and eventually more $10 a month pledges from granny on social security would trickle in.
He made his big money, (although he only is paid a modest salary - the big house, cars, staff, etc. are paid by the network), by eventually creating the Family (cable) Channel, which he took public.
There is a reason politics and religion, in any form, are supposed to be kept separate. What's most remarkable about Pat, is that for someone of such success and education, he's willfully and completely ignorant about world affairs. The world is so much easier to understand in self modulated black and white.
BTW - he hired Jim and Tammy Faye Baker before they became an evangelical soap opera. They used to run a puppet show on his first tv station.
