SPOILERS ahead for Showtime show Billions.
*************************
I'm catching up on Billions season 5. On episode 6 right now, The Nordic Model.
First off let me just say Chuck Rhoades is a goddamn asshole. Fuck his patriarchal attitude about "prostitutes" and his willingness to underhandedly use a negative argument regarding sex workers to get what he wants. I know, it's part of the character. And it's something I really like about the show, the supposed good guy isn't that good and the bad guy has his moments of redemption. I guess. He's still pretty bad, though. ANYway...
Now that's out of the way, I see what I think is a major plothole. Chuck *intentionally* spills red wine on the Van Gogh trying to catch Axe in the lie that it's a replica. It's so not a replica. Chuck then organizes some big takedown trying to catch him for tax fraud but by then Axe has made his apartment a museum displaying the original works so he can't be charged. Chuck has art authenticators with him and everything. But since Axe did what he did, Chuck slinks away without his win.
Why the eff can't Chuck get the authenticator to evaluate at least the Van Gogh? To show 1, that it's real (which we know, Axe isn't trying to say that it's a replica at this point) and 2, it has red wine on it? Even if Axe had it cleaned no way all traces of that wine are gone. That would prove Axe had the original in his apartment when he said he had the replica. I DON'T GET IT.
