When you were younger, and your heart was an open book, what did you want to do for a living?
what was your passion?

now that you are all grow'd up...
what do you do?

Since I was 10 years old, all I wanted to do was be a musician.

now I am 30, and I work at a grocery store, and I am trying to get back into school.

i wanted to be a pilot.
then when i saw a sound studio for the first time
it kinda gave me the feeling the cockpit of a plane gave me.
all the blinking lights i think did it.

i am an unsigned musician...i will never stop.
i practice alternative medicine, that is what pays.

I wanted to be an archeologist, I dreamed of discovering an unopened tomb in Egypt, of unwrapping mummies, of translating ancient manuscripts. My parents weren't wealthy enough to give me the financial support I would have needed for uni so I got a job as a secretary, then got married.

I wanted to be a veterinarian, then an astronomer. As it turns out I have an eighth grade math ability so both were out.

I always wanted to be pilot and I'm still want it, actually I have been two times 'flying' with a friend who has a small plane... but that's all I have done.

I'm Cybernetics Electronic Engineer and work designing test equipment for a Japanese company... and by myself on small automation projects.

I didnt have time to think about what i wanted to be. I was a father in highschool and had to get out and work. Failed marriage and about 20 years in a self induced hell i wound up with the woman of my dreams. So in that way all my dreams have been fufilled. So in that way i think i really made something of myself. I am her husband.

As a preschooler I think I wanted to be an electrician, because my dad was going to electrician school (he never did work as an electrician, but he did do all the electrical wiring in my parents' house, and I did take electricity projects in 4-H).

In elementary school I wanted to be an astronaut, but I found out I couldn't be because it requires good eyesight (something I've never had.) So then I wanted to be a scientist of some sort.

Now? I'm unemployed, looking for that elusive entry-to-low-mid-level computer programming job (they all seem to want really senior level people who can program in about 6 different languages, AND have DBA and hardware technician capabilities besides. Geez!) I'm also applying for computer operator jobs as well. I've done that before too, and did ok at it.

My dream now? To win the lottery so I won't have to worry about any of this stuff anymore. :biggrin1: But I know how likely that is (NOT likely!!!), so really I've gotten to the point that my "dream" is simply to have a steady job that pays the bills and have enough left over to save some and also have a bit of fun, and have a job that I can keep (not get fired or laid off.)

I wanted to be a Marine.

Unfortunately, I felt that I could not serve under the Clinton administration, because I disagreed with his foreign policy. Ironically, it was influenced heavily by a dream, that I woke up and wrote down, where I was serving in Serbia, and skulls and skeleton were everywhere.

I came to a large stage where a bunch of soldiers were in celebration. 4 naked women got on the stage, and huge stage lit vegas style sign lit up, that blinked "BLOOD" "BLOOD" "BLOOD"

The women then began to dance to some music, then caught on fire, fell to the floor, and the whole stage was covered in blood.

I woke up disturbed. It dawned on me, I never liked the first gulf war, and there hadn't been a foreign intervention I had approved of.

Eventually, I got in school.

I wanted to be a seismologist. Specifically, I wanted to study vocanos. I saw a National Geographic issue with photos taken from a helicopter that flew deep inside a volcano. I was very excited. Sadly, I have the math skills of a salad fork. I'm a "phone actress".

DJG, you're really bad at naming threads. I always come in to them expecting something completely different than what they are.

Anyway

When I was 4 my loftiest aspiration was to be a gas station attendant.

When I was 5 I wanted to be a car mechanic.

When I was 6 I wanted to be a roller coaster engineer, theme park designer, or Walt Disney imagineer. I also wanted to design board games.

When I was 7 or 8 I wanted to be an author, artist, or rock musician.

When I was 9 or 10 I wanted to design video games.

When I was 11 I wanted to be CEO of my own video game company, design software and hardware, and be fabulously wealthy.

When I was 12 or 13 I wanted to be a comic book writer and artist.

In high school I thought about being a film critic, newspaper editorialist, magazine editor, video game critic, game tester, photographer, computer programmer, screenwriter, professional driver, graphic designer, teacher, animator, or R&D staff for Wizards of the Coast. I also still had the comic book and video game designer thing in mind as less realistic alternates.

After high school I thought about retail management since this took far less motivation than any of the above.

When I went back to school I mostly wanted to be a freelance writer/photographer or travel journalist.

While in college I decided to finally try teaching, and did that for a while. I then also decided I could travel by teaching English in stead of doing the journalism thing, and again this would require less motivation. I ended up doing this eventually, also.

I've also always thought about working in porn.

My current aspiration is to make a serious try to get into screen writing again. Or porn. Depending on my mood, it might be something different next month. I get bored easily.

When I was younger, I wanted to do everything from archeology to biology. I lost interest by middle school and had no dream for a while. Since about 15, my dream has been simple and rather "lacking" in the eyes of many.

I want to settle down with some guy, make enough money to pay the bills and have a small amount of free cash between us. I could sell my art and work at some chincy job. I also want a cat and big dog. :3 What a dream?

Anyways, I'm currently just working and going to school while saving for an apartment. :3

I went through a year or two of wanting to design video games, but other than that I can't recall anything.
My dreams and ambitions involve who I am and who I'm with, not what I do - it's never been anything to do with my career. (I dream about what I'll do between when I wake up and when I go to work, not what I'll do at work.)

Explaining this to everyone who asks (and everyone asks) can be a chore sometimes.

I also REALLY wanted to drop out of school and be a roadie touring with Nine Inch Nails when I found out they were going to be on tour again for the first time in over 5 years. I sent several letters asking if I could work as a roadie, driver, security, gopher, cock sucker, whatever... I never got a response, though I did end up seeing them in concert something like 15 times since they started touring again.

I thought I'd be a writer for the longest time (Billy Joel cue). Then in high school I was so pimped out and pumped up by my history teacher I thought I'd be something history-related although it was all about the English language skillz.

Now, I just do admin work while studying IT and while writing at the same time.

I do feel though that I lost my spark/skillz somewhere along the way. I wouldn't like to talk about that but there are a few things that really fucked me up.
