With millions of people losing their job due to COVID-19 (at least here in Europe) and the willingness, or rather increased interest, in working from home to avoid commuting, I keep hearing more and more people wanting to find a side hustle to make some money online.

I would like to hear real advice/opinions of people who actually make some sort of income online. Every time I research about it I keep seeing those same scammy ''ways'' like: get paid to answer surveys and play online games etc...

These are not, IMO, real ways.

So bottom line: do you have a side hustle to help yourself pay the bills? If so, what is it? How did you find it/got into it?

I don't have a side hustle, but my friend worked for a wine distributor doing promotions on the weekends in grocery stores. That's how she paid for vacations. Not able to during COVID, but she enjoyed it.

Another friend scours thrift stores for interesting pieces of furniture, decor, then refinishes/paints/upcycles them on Facebook Marketplace.

The only money I've made online was through selling stuff on eBay. It wasn't to make a boatload of cash, but more as an online yard sale to get rid of extra things and have a little bit of fun money to buy something one of us wanted; which ironically was usually something on eBay. As it stands now, even with the wife being unemployed since March, our situation fortunately is not such that there really is a need for any side hustle, although lately I have been thinking about having her try to sell off some stuff online again just to give her something to do while stuck at home all day. If it was an issue of finance, I'd likely seek the solution offline by picking up more hours or even get a second job, before looking at some get rich quick scheme. Like you said, too many ways to get ripped off online with dodgy ventures and I'm not one of the most internet or tech savvy persons as it is.

Second up-cycling furniture for sale. Ya don't even need to Thrift, knowing ya local bulk pick-up days is a great place to start.

Learned years back cuz my family are making folks. I wanted to know how to reupholster/restore furniture. Legit quality work, not just draping and stabling fabric or slapping on a faux finish.

My hobbies can bring in monies if I put out the effort. Yarn, when I spin or dye. Knitting, small pieces like caps, gloves, scarves. My garden has given me heaps to do. Made a batch of homemade hot sauce. Sold a few, gave most away. Pickles and preserves.

Jewelry making. YouTube got me pulled into resin. Scrounging in the garden/wild turned up heaps of materials to experiment with.

Online selling keeps people at bay.

Look at your marketable skills and things that you enjoy doing as a hobby that other people hate doing themselves or don't have the time for.

I'm a consultant in business management but I've done a bit of web design/management on the side just using platforms like Wix. Doesn't reap huge rewards but you'd be suprised how many know nothing about certain things and don't want to pay big for it for a larger agency/company.
