I'm interested to hear about your skin care routines, particularly if you have oily skin. Generally use an exfoliating scrub in the shower then Neutrogena hydro boost lotion in the day, then Eucerin redness relief night creme before bed.

My face gets quite a bit of redness which I'm self conscious about, so if you have any tips besides what I'm already doing I would be grateful. Thanks!

You should really watch ‘Skincare by Hyram’ on YouTube. He totally changed the way I do skincare.

Because I’m cheap, I stick to products by The Ordinary. High quality, low cost, no fragrance. I have combination skin. In the morning, I cleanse then use a hyaluronic acid serum. Then a moisturizer, also with hyaluronic acid. REN sunscreen if I’m going outside. Primer, then foundation if I’m wearing makeup.

In the evening, I do a double cleanse if I’ve worn makeup. Micellar water, then wash my face. Then I use a glycolic toner for exfoliation. I use two serums at night. A retinol plus the hyaluronic acid. Moisturizer and done. Twice a week I do a salicylic acid mask. I do a separate lip mask.

I too have a lot of cheek redness which I'm self-conscious about :(

I'm trying Cetaphil redness prone wash these days and like it a lot

Foaming Face Wash for Redness Prone Skin | Cetaphil US
You know, I was googling about this while I was in CVS and I actually wanted that but they didn't have it so I just got what I got and forgot about it. It had a lot of positive reviews so I'm gonna have to maybe order from Amazon.

Am prone to some oil on face for sure. Current thing for face (use different stuff for body) is a Korean gel moisturizer. Jiggles like thing o jello, no shit. Smells o peach. Use of that is light enough the parts o face that no get oily don't complain, but doesn't overwhelm oily areas so much. Also use o a rose water n witch hazel toner. Plus a matte primer under foundation works pretty well for me. Will look up product names for you later. Primer is uh, Rimmel something. Pretty inexpensive too.

Inexpensive is GREAT! Yeah even the light stuff just seems to make my face sweat immediately. This makes makeup difficult to say the least. It's super frustrating because my skin is oily but then will be dry in patches. I loathe my skin only on my face though.

The gel moisturizer I use is Skinfood brand. Peach and it was under $10 from an Ulta. The primer I use is Stay Matte from Rimmel, was maybe $6. I do primer on oily spots, foundation, and then some elf brand translucent powder on top to set it/help stay longer. Works pretty ok, and as day goes on looks more dewy/fresh than oily. Foundation is uh, Loreal Infallible something or other. No makeup guru here, just kinda what has been workin for me so far. And what friends have helped me pick.

The only real tip i have is rice flour as an exfoliating scrub. I use it maybe twice a week. Awesome.

Just rice flour and water to form a paste. The same mix makes a great mask fir oily skin.
Wait WHAT?! Whether it works or not, this is why it is better to ask people than the google. Thanks!

Oil. Seriously. Rosehip oil, almond oil - I've used loads of different types of carrier oil with a couple of drops of essential oil of a night.

Google Dr Axe - he has some good mixes

Dont exfoliate too often, as it stimulates oil production.

If you use a make up primer, try and avoid silicone based ones as they clogs the oil in the pores and increases acne.

Also when using foundation, i was always told due to my oily skin i should use a matte finish, but i found it just combined with the oils and made my face cakey within a few hours, so now i use a natural satin or luminous finish foundation. I have to blot once or twice during the day, but for me thats better then looking cakey.

I also use a mud mask 2-3 times a week.

I also use the neutrogena sleeping mask as a moisturizer at night. I put on a thin layer, and the tiny single use pot lasts me 4-5 nights.

I’m going to go out on a limb with a wild one here -

For years I used all sorts of harsh chemical cleansers, astringents, exfoliates, lotions...I thought I had problematic skin, oily skin forever.

Then one day I met a woman who told me that I actually had wonderful skin, all these problems were actually of my own creation stemming from these chemical products. She suggested I do a full 30-day skin detox wherein I let NOTHING touch my skin except sweat. She called it the “Caveman Regimen.”

I was so sick and frustrated with my skin and trying to control it with products that i said, what the hell, and gave it a whirl.

30 days with nothing on my face. Nada. No lotion. No water. Kept it dry when I took showers.

Over the course of that month my face built up a layer of dead skin like a masque and beneath it new skin started to regenerate. I also broke out more than normal as my skin purged. It was wild to watch. At the end of 30 days my face had a sort of dark tan color from all the dirt and dead skin. Finally I wiped it all off with a washcloth and washed my face with water.

As god as my witness, My skin began to improve dramatically. I am well past puberty so I knew I shouldn’t really be having any issues with hormonal breakouts except at certain times of the month. Not only was I breaking out far less, but the tone and texture of my skin also improved. Free from the chemicals, No longer was it dry or oily, but rather my skin found it all natural pH balance.

Gradually overtime I began to work some different sunscreens and light moisturizers into my routine. I use CocoKind products now for moisturizers and light oil-based cleanser, but most days I don’t wash my face at all. I haven’t put any face wash on my face in about seven years. My skin has NEVER BEEN BETTER.

TL;DR - stop washing your face with harsh chemical products. Let your skin detox. Your face will find its own healthy balance.

I do have a routine and have had for a long time, only good products without perfume and alcohol in them. In the morning I use a cleanser and then hyaluronic acid with niammicide one day and vitamin C the other day and of course sunscreen. At night I use a cleanser, hyaluronic acid, collagen and a moisturizer. It workes wonders. I also take some pills for hormonal acne but those are not for everyone. Though, all of this doesn't stop the wrinkles from coming in haha. I've just looked into ultrasound wrinkle therapy and made an appointment at sofwave.com , honestly can't wait to see the results cause I've only heard amazing things.

I used to do very, very minimal skincare and my skin was all sorts of blemishes and angry. I have a carefully selected list o skincare things I use. I only added a new product one at a time n wait a while to see how my skin likes it. My skin has improved by leaps n bounds since I started a careful path o a skincare routine. A face wash that has salicylic acid and a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment for blemishes. A rose water based toner as needed. A Korean gel moisturizer for warmer months and one with cocoa butter during cold, dry months. Retinol serum in the evening.

If ya skin does better with no products, great! Mine is all sorts of fucked without products to keep stuff in balance. Been there, done that.
