Emerson College - Boston, MA Broadcast Journalism.
Alas, when I was advised to move to the midwest to be an anchor man and arrived to tell the locals what happened that day, I was told after a year and a half search and endless rejections, by a Gary, Indiana station (off the record) that "I have a great camera presence, great personality, education, well spoken but that they really were looking for ethnic and a fair haired, Ivy league, east coast guy was tantamount to the anti-christ in broadcast news in mid-late nineties.
So I tried to look ethnic. I got my hair dyed what was to have been dark brown. The dye job looked like I had smeared jet black shoe polish on my head. To make it seem natural I had my eyebrows done also. Undeterred, I went to get a tan so seem dark complected. Well I don't tan. I just got bright, lobster red. So the short of it is that I did not look ethnic. I looked like a sunburnt satan worshiper.
