Me again . Am thinking about a nicely cut , mildly loose fitting , white , cotton/linen suit , for what i think , is going to be a stinking hot summer , here in Australia . Chuck in a white Panama hat for good measure , and no tie .

I only ever wear a black 3 piece suit , always with a high end silk tie , and generally with cuff links . Also wear a sterling silver " curb " bracelet & family crest ring , and silver tie bar , if wearing a narrow tie . An early lady friend of mine , once suggested that combination of black and silver looked elegant . I have never forgotten it . Having said all that , i rarely appear in a suit these days . P.s , must always carry a " snot rag " , aka handkerchief .

A high end silk tie might be nice, but not practical. I wear neckties most work days, and for me they're practically disposable. One drop of coffee and forget it.

i wear suits everyday....so i kinda have to liven up color and cut ....so it doesn't look like i wear the same thing everyday....so i go a wild on color...green tan burn orange red...but i wear them sparingly to go with the usual grey black brown......but if i was on a budget....was buying first suit or traveling.....go with a medium cut.charcoal grey....good for any occasion party...night out.....funeral...job interview

There are so many factors to consider but if you really had to buy just one suit regardless of season, occasion, etc., I would recommend either charcoal or navy. It's better to be overdressed than underdressed.

Gotta agree with the charcoal. Navy is good but charcoal is far more versatile and the coat will work better with jeans for times when you want to dress down the suit or dress up the jeans.

Between the two I'd definitely get myself a charcoal.

I had several suits in various colors when I worked in a traditional business dress office. Generally charcoal, light grey. blue, brown, tan. Rarely black.
Now that I am retired, one medium grey.
