When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

How close is your current profession to that ideal?

An Egyptologist....not even close to what I do now unless you count working with ancient queens now and then. I've enjoyed by trips to Egypt because of the reading and research I have done as a hobby.

I always wanted to be an architect. Today, I'm not registered, but I'm pretty close to the field.

I wanted to be a fireman for a while, until someone told me girls couldn't do that so I had to come up with something else. After that I would just pretend to go the office like my dad did although I had no idea what he even did (he was a civil engineer). I just knew I didn't want to stay home and be a mommy. I'm in IT so I work in an office.

My greatest desire was to be a cold-blooded killer...

...or a Methodist minister...

...or a policeman...

...or a radio announcer...

...or a schoolteacher...

...or a cartographer (I seriously considered that for a while)..

I haven't legitimately achieved any of those goals; although, I have created a few cold-blooded killers over the years (in fictional tales).

What I wanted most, was to enjoy myself and to that end I have been reasonably satisfied.

I honestly wanted to be a superhero.

I used to play in nuclear waste all the time, in hopes I'd get some super powers. Oddly enough, I have nice thick shiny hair, but I doubt that is a superpower.

You think I'm joking, but I'm not. I used to dream of helping/saving the world however I possibly could. Teaching seems to fall into that catergory, I suppose... but I can't wear tights, and I'm OBviously not fighting supervillians.
*sigh*

Architect. Then later Oceanographer, which I actually got a degree in (well, Marine Biology).

Today I design and build boats.. kind of a combo I guess.

I wanted to be a fireman. Seriously. But I ended up creating and owning my own businesses. But if I want a fireman, I bet I can find one.
I love firemen, they always cum when called.

Darlin', being certifiable and being registered are two completely different things. :lmao:

I wanted to be a boxing referee because I thought that was what my dad did. Turns out he was a Deputy EEO Officer for the Navy. Talk about disappointing.:redface: I also wanted to be a ballerina, model in a Blackglama Mink ad, and a stay at home mom. I'd still give my eye teeth to be the latter.

How close is your current profession to that ideal?
Hmm, I have no sense of rhythm and stopped ballet lessons at 11. Though currently unemployed, I have held over 35 different jobs in my life including Bridal Show Model, Polymer Chemistry Teacher for grades 2-12, Retail Manager, Receptionist, Professional Development Specialist, Office Manager, Lifeguard, Food Service Manager, Curator of Education for a historical association and many others.

If you combine some of the skills and duties of Teacher, Lifeguard, P.D. Specialist, Office Manager, and Food Service Manager that's kind of like being a mom. :biggrin1: We won't get into all the juvenile men I have dated.

Ever since I can remember I always wanted to serve in the military. Seeing pictures of my grandfathers, my father while deployed, hearing some stories, looking at their medals etc fascinated me, even at a young age. I was that kid that was playing with plastic army men when not playing sports etc, I even loved watching documentaries at the age of like 5 or 6.

I shipped out roughly two days after turning 18, almost 20 years ago. Went to Panama and Iraq for Bush Senior, then back to the Gulf serving in Afghanistan and Iraq for Bush Junior. However, Bush Junior was nice enough to call me back while I was a civilian on my way to become fat, dumb and happy.

You would think I would be on their Xmas card list by now.

However, what I do now is something that never popped into my mind while I was a kid........
