Most of them are in no need of being macho, a trait that is a pathetic attempt at appearing manly! I love the fact that you can be yourself with gay guys and not have to be a "man" like most of us do around the boys! Most gay guys are liberal which is a trait I find highly important in human beings. They are also quite empathatic which make them behave EXCELLENTLY in social situations... I could go on and on... I just LOVE GAY GUYS!!!!

To read some of the comments on here you would thing that the whole gay community should be knighted! Well why not just cut the crap and accept that gay men are just the same as straight men in that every person is an individual and you can't attach character traits onto someone purely based on who they like to shag!

This is one of LPSG's staple Gratuitous Overgeneralization Threads. Get with the program, fer chrissake!

The gay friends I have are much more open then my other friends and I feel much more comfortable discussing things with them that I wouldn't normally discuss with my other friends. I can't really put a finger on it, it's nothing sexual or romantic or anything like that, but every gay guy I've met has been able to listen to me when I have a problem and to react or respond genuinely.

And in addition to that, the gay friends I have are just excellent people to be around anyway and them, me, and the rest of my friends are able to have a great time when we hang out together.

I live in rural Ohio, where no one seems to admit being gay. So I don't have any gay friends that I know of IRL. The only gay friends I have are on LPSG, with whom I have genuinely enjoyed the discussions and the few close online friendships I have made here.

I can understand the comments made by others about gay people being sensitive, open-minded and willing to listen. I also find the stereotype to be generally true, that gay men seem to appreciate cultural things to a higher percentage of their population than the straight population. In some sense I get the impression that gay men are the keepers of our high culture. Is that too much of a generalization?

Gay guys... hmmmm... well we are all so very unique and different in our own way. Yes, most of us really and truly value our friends and loved ones, hence why most of us call others "family" because once you have been touched by a gay guy in your life and you accept them they will always usually accept you too.... right lex????

"Teacher says that everytime a rainbow is formed a new gay guy is born :) or is that a my little pony????"

I don't mind stereotyping in some situations because some things are generally true about a given culture, group, etc. However, I wouldn't say gay men are generally better listeners than any other segment of the population. Neither are they better conversationalists.

There is an obsession with body image that affects certain subcultures of the gay community. Yes, it is safe to say that many gay men are body-obsessed.

Yes, certain subcultures of the gay community enjoy the finer things of life, and so do many other groups of people: Italians, French people and Japanese women. Rural Americans, no (generally-speaking)

As far as better listeners/better conversationalists are concerned, it all depends on the person, not his or her sexuality.

Gay men know how to party!:biggrin1: Do they ever!

It could be. But if it was that way, then there would be another lecture involved. The keepers of high culture, are gays? If a guy is concerned about cultural things, should we think that he is probably gay?

I think is true that gays are generally more sensitives than majority. And i think this is because of the hardness of being gay. Not just for the external handicaps they have to overcome; for the handicaps within aswell. I think they have spent many times thinking, wondering, trying to comprehend why; they have been interpreting feelings during many time before they assume their gayness. So i think they have the facility to empathy (?) some feelings.

What i like? when they are kind. They can be the kindest men.
