we both know if i did that it would become about me and i would be criticized for it. :pensive: Ill leave the question to be answered as I am legit curious what people want from their govt. Most of the threads on the internet consist of political grievances
I have started several of such threads. I always posted my opinion... maybe not at the starting post, but very soon.

Yes, some will criticize you for yiur opinion, but that's nothing that bothered me. These people usually stop posting very fast at such threads ;)

Nothing. In fact, I wish the government did not exist AT ALL. I would rather live in a capitalist anarchy than underneath the wings of some scumbags who think they have the right to a monopoly of initiating force against others. The private sector, when completely unrestrained, will show to be more efficient and have higher potentials for economic growth than what the public sector could ever dream of.

Let's keep in mind as well that GOVERNMENTS are responsible for many atrocities that happened in the past, and for warmongering - if the private sector were purely in charge of the military, I reckon that the amount of genocides and senseless wars would go significantly down (let's be honest, what kind of nation exists where most individuals are willing to pay out of their pocket to fund senseless fighting?)

It worked for Italy and Germany, there is a precedence, to name just two. There are many more.

no youre just over thinking a very simple question. I cant believe how ridiculous answering a simple question like this has become. go back to your troll cave im over it.

Too easy to flip that around on you. Read some of the Socratic dialogues. You'll see that asking for clarification for supposedly simple questions has been part of intelligent dialogue for millennia. Often our choices of wording have a vagueness and ambiguity that we don't realize until someone points it out to us.

So I can say "I can't believe how difficult asking for a simple clarification has become."

Mine I think was very simple, yet for some reason you didn't take responsibility for your question enough to take a few seconds to answer it:

What do you mean? Are you asking generally what we believe the functions of the State ought to be?

Provide a standard of living and education, in addition to a firm, complete, and elaborate infrastructure, not to mention access to healthcare, that matches, or exceeds, the very best of our Western European allies (this includes Scandanavia). Note, this does not require the US reinventing the wheel, but rather doing something unprecedented in US history: learning from countries that have been around far longer than we have because, at the rate we are going, we will not be a coun-try much longer, but rather we will become just another giant cunt, like Greece or Russia or something.

What do I wish the government would do?

Take marijuana OFF the bullshit DEA schedule 1 drug list and *at least* legalize for medical purposes nationally (even though I of course do support recreational use as well).

That'd be a nice start.

But we've seen enough unbridled capitalism in the past century to know what it leads to.

Unbridled? I’m gonna’ go out on a limb here and suggest that you must not spend as much of your energy complying with federal and state regulations as some.

Start with Upton Sinclair.

Ah, you had one specific facet of economic activity in mind. Well sure, if by "unbridled" you mean without protections for laborers, then yes, there was unbridled capitalism a little ways back. But that was still not unbridled in a completely general sense, and it was far from an anarcho-capitalist society.
