no. im asking
What do you wish the government would do for you?

I don't "wish" government would do anything "for me", in particular. Government's purpose is not to do for or against me. And, government is not the enemy or ally.

For me, Government (the various ones) each have a separate function and all I want is for them to perform those functions, which for the most par are nothing more than people coming together and figuring out ways we can collectively solve issues, improve lives, generally support our culture(s), and to do/coordinate the things we can do better together.

What issues, improvements, support, and things? That's the subject of generations of debates.

Ah, you had one specific facet of economic activity in mind. Well sure, if by "unbridled" you mean without protections for laborers, then yes, there was unbridled capitalism a little ways back. But that was still not unbridled in a completely general sense, and it was far from an anarcho-capitalist society.

Pick a facet. Worker conditions, consumer safety, environmental impact, economic stability, international relations . . . at various times, we've seen how lack of regulation on free-market capitalism has adversely affected these concerns.

No, we haven't seen a full-blown anarcho-capitalist society. We've just seen enough to know better.

However you look at it there still remains the core underlying issue: there has for a very long time been a plutocratic partnership of State and big business. That partnership inhibits the existence of a truly free market. And no, I'm not saying it could be any other way. Hence why I referred to true free market economics as a fantasy.

Well then, after all that discussion, it sounds like we violently agree. ;)

Instigate a two child policy with economic sanctions against individuals and countries that do not implement it.

You can't save the planet whilst breeding like rats.
I know I have posted it before and I know you respond to it...
But anyway ;)

Capitalism has exploited the consumption needs of a global population that has doubled in fifty years. If you want to control capitalism, first control the population.
Well, even IF we would need population control, we still would have a way too high standard of living.
This would mean you have two options.

1. Kill people untill yiur birth control works
2. Make everyone noticeable poorer

I doubt we need birth control and while I agree that we exploit the planed do I believe that we can solve these problems with new technologies and recycling / up and down cycling

Another insult, which is another logic error—ad hominem

You seem to have a problem with the meaning and use of some rather simple words. But never mind, I am sure you entertain yourself here and you are completely entitled to do so, but my interest is slightly less than the occasional loose bowel movement.

My point is that capitalism has flourished on the back of the explosion in human population. In particular western capitalism, and within that the super rich who apparently we now despise. But really the baby boomers have filled their pockets simply by virtue of owning assets for which now there is double the demand and hence an exponentially greater market value. Younger people like you are now being exploited through the debt you will need to aspire to the same asset values that the over sixties have had handed to them on a plate.

Capitalists and bankers apparently want this cycle to continue forever, but of course it can't. The issue is not what the wonderful Mr. Rosling is talking about so eloquently, but the ecological destruction of the planet by a swarm of humans with the ability to feed themselves and extend their lifespan.

More insults, and that means you’re intellectually bankrupt.
