Canadians and others think of Canadas (government backed) trade in asbestos to 3rd world economies? No wonder poor people of other populations deceived by their own corrupt governments treating their lives as cheap, backed by wealthy western ones of other countries, come to hate western businesses and governments.

Canada through it's selfishness is setting itself up to be a future hated nation because of it's attitude. It took us years in Australia to bring Hardies to account it's using this deadly product, people will be dying for many years to come, even though they knew for decades, it's well proven dangers.

I think it sucks that the Canadian government promotes the export of asbestos to protect 1600 jobs in Quebec. It's been going on for years, long since we banned it's use in Canada.

I also think it sucks even more that governments around the world continue to allow asbestos to be imported into their countries and endanger the lives of workers. Stop using it and the market will take care of the production and export.

Russia is the largest producer and exporter of asbestos and China is second. Both countries not only produce and export it, they are still using it, including for water pipes!

Canada could (and should) stop exporting the mineral, but that would not stop companies in the third world from using it, as they'd just find another source. The real solution lies with the consumers.

They have no, and are given no choice, it's cheap. Just like their lives are treated.

It's cheap and it's nasty. If the lifespan of humans were two hundred years these things would not go on, but it's not, the arseholes who support this trade are only interested in the short term. When the people in these countries become better educated and slowly awaken to what is taking place and the reason why their children and families are dying. Their anger and frustration will overflow into striking out against those who supported and caused it.

No doubt thats when the buck passing will start. 'If we did not supply it, they would have' It's not going to matter a cracker to those who have lost families, pissed off and affected by it.
