The only place I drive is in Honolulu and there is really no getting stranded. (unless you count not being able to find your car at the Ala Moana Center) As far as the rest of the island of Oahu I have a Life Hammer in case I need to cut the seat belt or break out the window.

I have this kit that Aldi's used to sell a few years back, it's called an "Auto Medic Kit"

Has jumper cables, a flashlight, a basic first aid kit, bungee cord and batteries in it. I also carry a fleece blanket, some water, a life hammer/flashlight some cereal bars. I have a donut spare tire and a basic jack, and a basic multi tool with screwdrivers and such on there. Plus, I carry the number to a local towing service in my wallet.

This is the fundamental difference of living in Hawaii vs. the mainland. People in Hawaii keep a beach towel and swim suit in the trunk in case we just decide to say... "Fuck this shit I'm going to the beach!"

a 2 gallon jug of water, some canned fruit, some canned soup, 2 bags of m&m's.....1 plain and 1 peanut, both bags are the 22ounce size, 2 boxes melba toast, can opener, some plastic spoons, and empty container to piss in, a double roll of paper towel, 2 flashlights, a battery operated radio, yellow legal pad and some pens....in case I have to write what's happening to me as I slowly freeze, 2 blankets, 2 bags of cat litter.....it's good traction to get out of a snow rut, a couple of books. Several batteries....I get a pkg of 24, they work on both the radio and the flashlight, a couple of boxes of matches.

The batteries, food items and matches keep getting changed out once a month so as not to go bad and I use the batteries, matches go to the church and the food to the local food pantry.

Brandy, dry clothes and towels, firewood, chocolate, and fragmentation grenades. Also, sunglasses and a fishing rod. A Coleman lantern and some crystal. Porn. A sharp knife. Shovels and rope. A battery with built-in air compressor. A bucket. Matches. I think that's all.

What's the bucket for? Is it somehow related to the porn?

French law requires me to carry spare bulbs (at least one for each light type), a high-vis jacket, two warning triangles and after July '12 I will also have to carry a self-breathalyser kit. I don't currently comply wit the law fully as I keep forgetting to stock the bulbs up. I also have oil and water on board most of the time. I had a foot pump til my dogs ate it.

Winter time in the Rockies can be unpredictable, so I keep a lot of stuff in my trunk - emergency kit, sleeping bag, blankets, water bottles, a couple of ziploc bags of food (granola bars, cheese crackers, that kind of stuff), matches, a medium-sized snow shovel in case I need to dig out. About a year ago I drove to pick up a friend of a friend at a bus station, and on the way back there was an elk that had just been hit, steam still rising and gory etc. This guy insisted I stop so he could drag the elk off to the side of the road, where he puked, and when he got back in he handed me an antler that broke off while he was moving the carcass. So that stays in my trunk as well, kind of a "you don't live in the city anymore boy" souvenir.

Am I the only one that also carries fuses and washer fluid?
This thread reminds me, I need to get a tow strap.
