So I was gone for a week of vacation and I return to find Rippedmuscledad got banned...did I miss something? Damn....what happened?

Ok, so I was searching through etc for Banned and there seems to have been alot of discussion on banning in the last few days. Maybe this is in the wrong area. I guess I'm not expecting an answer just expressing my shock I guess.

I'm shocked he managed to hang on here as long as he did.

Hopefully he's clearer in his own mind about the difference between (a) being a responsible parent and (b) behaving inappropriately towards minors than he appeared to be in some of the PMs he sent people here in the past.

For the record, I have no idea on what grounds he was banned, but hopefully all the other pedos will soon fuck off from the site too.

Yes something was going on in that area. I realized that when he first joined.

And "hopefully" you're clearer about the proper use of the word 'hopefully' in this English language.

(see bottom-most paragraph)

The writer of that sad piece apparently hasn't leanrned how to use context clues. The excruciatingly literal-minded are always such asses.

Most people understand that "the sun coming out" is an idiom of language, that we in fact revolve around the sun, but this is an acceptable and often used form of speech. I have yet to find a single human being whose language is consistantly above reproach. If one must use an idiom to illustrate why another form of speech is undesireable, I'd say they don't have much of a case.

Nice first post, by the way. I'm sure we'll all be eagerly awaiting number 2.

That page leads with an incorrect argument. The error is not sloppy use of "hopefully," but omitted punctuation in the "modern" reading. With punctuation, the ambiguity disappears.

Hayakawa made what should have been the obvious point that punctuation is important. A "man, eating shrimp," is a description of prosaic gastronomy; but a "man-eating shrimp" would be a cause for some alarm.
