This is all so true. I remember the swimming pool in my small Canadian prairie town in my childhood ... nothing but speedos, for the guys. It was the default choice.

Dollars to doughnuts that's not true now.

I wonder if it has something to do with the acceptance of homosexuality. The assumption used to be that only one person in a thousand was gay -- not literally, but a small town might have only a handful of acknowledged gay men.

But once notions like "one in ten" were in the air (too high a figure, anyway, in my opinion, but you get the point), young males were much more cautious and self-protective.

    "From what?"

    Good question.

O/T Well, interesting article, I think the main problem is the whole "metrosexual" attitude, heck, as a masculine male I feel "odd" because I'm broad shouldered, broad thighed, have chest hair and muscles?? Yep, I'm a freak for looking like a MAN rather than a pre-pubescent.

As for clothing, well, I don't wear to impress unless it's on a "I like this shirt" basis, I am far too self conscious and I need to re-learn how to shout FUCK YOU to the universe from time to time.

And Off/Topic I've lost about 14lbs working out from the last week and a half. Yay! I'll be trim for summer. :p

No seriously, doesn't Dreamer's ava look like it could be a very tall, thin Native american/latino? Hell, I'd go so far as to say he could even have a ten and a half inch dick...

I'll give you that, but without the uber snarky attention to detail and proliferation of googled-info, I'd have to say No--he is NOT talking about jonb.

Contrary to writer K. Esser's assertion that "after these many years, no one even notices or wonders about it at all, I in fact have noticed and wondered. The article makes some valid observations, though the author uncomfortably touches too often on themes of "boy worship" I think.

I thought the changes in fashion (and in mindset as to what was considered acceptable male attire) was largely due to influences from hip-hop. Regardless, it's a look which i personally detest, not so much for what it symbolizes, but mostly because of the nature of its conformity. Why not just wear a uniform? Oh, I forget...it IS a uniform.

And nothing strikes me as sadder than watching young black teen males standing around in a store holding up their overlarge pants, hanging halfway off their hips, with big shorts (or is it boxers?? who knows) showing underneath.

Hint: If your attire is such that you have only one free hand because you need the other to keep your pants from falling down, there's something seriously wrong. And all those double layers of clothing: shirts, hooded jackets, in BLACK! I watched a guy at the car wash just this weekend wearing that stuff - in 90 degree weather! (??) A sad state of affairs.

Anyway, that's my two cents, but then what would a nudist know?
