Hindsight is always 20/20.

But the only thing you should be doing with your past is learning from it. For those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I agree and it appears the world has learned very little by what is occuring these days

Couldn't have put it better, myself.

The past is there to remind us of the consequences of decisions and therefore help us to make better ones in future, albeit that as humans, we love expecting a different outcome from similar actions/decisions- oh wait, that's the definition of insanity... oh well lol. :blackeye:

Everything that has been posted is true and should be the way we all live. But expand the thoughts on this how many times do you see people use the past as a reason why someone owes them something. To me this is very similar.

Yeh, done that a lot myself. Taking responsibility/control is much more effective, tho. And somehow making peace with, or moving on from the past.

Yeah i do do (haha) the what if's a lot. Not so much in regret though. Just like other people have said, its more about trying to find the right way forward. And i agree peace is hard to find, particularly when it comes to relationships. No one has created a time machine so until then whats done is done.

Hubby and I play the 'what if' game often and it is a good exercise to remind us that we are so totally happy where we are.... a few what if's that we discuss from time to time:

1. "What if... I'd had sex with the guy before him"...(who is very hung, but a really big dick, personality-wise)...that's alway good for a big laugh. I may have the smaller (ahem) guy, but I def got the BESTEST.

2. "What if ...he never asked me out because I was a little loud and flirty in school" (and he is very quiet and introverted, but we are a great team.) and finally,

3. "What if...we had waited until we got back home from visiting his grandparents that weekend to have hot, torrid romp in the bed. What if we'd listened to our gut and not had unprotected sex that weekend?" (we'd been married a couple of years) We would not have our wonderful daughter (only child).. Would probably have been childless.

There are some what if's you can look back on your life and say that you are happier with the choices you made. Even though at the time, it might not have sounded like such a great idea. Sometimes it is good to look back and see where you could've been and be grateful for where you are.

I never look at a 'what if" (history) with regret... too much pain... and truthfully does no good at all.... only look at the decisions that have made you who you are today ....

If you are going to indulge in the game of What If? then the only way you should do it is the way FancyPants describes.
There is movie that explores this in a really fun way. The premise is that there is a soul mate for everyone but depending on the choices you make fate may decide if you meet and when. If you speak french or enjoy reading subtitles it's fun to watch....
The Young Girls Of Rochefort
Unless your heart is made of stone you will be walking on air at the end of this movie!

I wanna see that movie. I'm a sucker for those kind of movies. :)

Here's another what if from me.....what if I never did an internet search for my illness last year and never came across this site? Wow...my life would be so different. I wouldn't have my sunshine. :)
