I seen this article around online but didn't read much into it. Also lately been seeing lots of these flags around my work area... I work in a town that is some-what predjudice. I was told the flag doesn't mean anything bad even though I mostly see racist people with the flag idk? I think I need to do my homework but I just don't deal with ignorant people of any color that it that's all.

Going back about 12 years, I remember 2 British Army bases that I was stationed at where people were not allowed to fly the Union flag or St George's flag.

This probably extended to other flags too, although I'm not sure. Those two were obviously the most common and the ones of particular interest to me (being English).

It wasn't official Army policy, but it was certainly sanctioned from the top down for PC reasons.

Hmmmn, remind me again. Why did I join, if not for my country? (Don't be cynical peeps!)

If he was white, according to your article, he too would be allowed to hang up the flag:

"because of USCB's firm belief in the First Amendment and its right of free speech, the University cannot and will not prohibit these flags or other symbols that our students choose to display. To do so would contest the constitutional right of free speech or expression – a principle we hold sacrosanct."

BTW were you a fan of this very popular TV show in which the Confederate Flag was prominently displayed? I enjoyed it and noted its use of that flag caused no national outrage when the series was aired on CBS:

The Dukes of Hazzard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The problem is that once something has been linked to something bad its hard to pull away from it. The Union Jack has had a long history but because the Confederate Army used it its associated with slavery. Then you have supremacist groups using it as well which continues to tarnish the original name of the flag.

My ancestors died to rip down the rebel rag, though why they chose to retain the Union is anyone's guess.

Right right, I would think that "winning a fight" would mean that he couldn't put it up in the first place, and that is true. He was told to take it down in the first place because of complaints.

I am no apologist for America, and the many crimes of its government and populace, but I do not have the slightest doubt that the nation and populace represented by the flag of the CSA was far, far worse. Persons who display this flag (except for in some contexts, for example in art or history) should therefore be treated with contempt and ostracised, not given media attention.

Clearly your only intention in starting this thread was to put that point across. And your dream was that someone would say the very words, in gritty prose.

I'm calling you out again, you political troll bigot. Get out of my sight with this shit.

Yeah, yeah, I'm not the one who said that whoever flies this flag shouldn't even be given the time of day.

That's a good question. The guy said that it represented him, as he lived in the South. And was proud of his heritage as a Southerner.

I guess it is inexplicable; sort of like the concept of slavery is inexplicable.
