Actually,

I would beg to differ. They may not hang out on the site but there are definitely members here at LPSG who fit that description...

Its not like I meant to harshly insult but the idealized version really just doesn't have nor would make the time for LPSG. If you are honest you can see that. And yes I have, too much time, so I'm definitely excluded. And there are uber cool guys here and not so uber cool.:biggrin1:

P.S. Ben Franklin is the greatest choice for Ren category, followed by Archimedes. Michael and Tiger are the best examples for the alpha.

P.P.S Just used real examples that fit the definition of what Alpha and Ren mean so that many could visualize in a common fashion. I think this threads topic is good but some posts have been kind of strangely misogynistic. Almost scary funny.

Chaz,

I think it can go both ways. They say that with men the halo effect is in play with physical beauty. Often with very attractive women there is an assumption, especially if she is in a male dominated environment, that she perhaps used her physical attributes to help advancement. So I suppose it is best for us all to work hard....

Naughty.... i think the Halo Factor has been tested in quite a scientific manner.. psychology is hard to test, but this is prob one of those theories which could be an has been tested in a qualitative and quantitative manner.

I do agree with what you say, but i beleive the Halo Factor applies to all of us. but perhaps in varying degrees. i actually believe that there is a very loose possitive correlation between physical beauty and intelligence. intelligence makes money, money can attract beauty, this can equate to intelligent and beautiful offspring.. we all know money also helps us maintain our health and appearance.

Better go.. need to be sat behind my desk at work in less than 6 hrs time.. INSOMNIAC

All of my gf's from Uni have better jobs/larger incomes than their siginificant other except for one and she is on level pegging with him. And I meet quite a few couples that have trouble starting a family because the wife is the main bread winner!

gosh isn't this the crux of a women's forum on a big dick site? Women are empowering themselves, gaining equality so fast, that they can oogle the male physique and express their cravings w/o shame.

A hundred years ago women couldn't even enter the mans smoking room in HER OWN HOME. She wasn't seen as equal. I wonder how many women never had an orgasm their whole lives? Lots I bet.

Now the ladies here can praise, salivate, lust after, critique a mans cock/body just like we men have being doing to you for eons. You can demand what you want, demand a big cock, demand an orgasm, demand your man to look the way you want him to.

Is this a great world or what?

Disclaimer: The following paragraph is not intended to describe the desires of all women. There is no way I can speak for all of us, since we are so unique. It is, however, a statement made on behalf of myself and many of the women I know.

I think that perhaps the reason so many women are attracted to alpha males is that we are tired of taking charge. We are tired of being the breadwinner, the decision-maker, the boss -- we are tired of having the weight of the world on our shoulders. We want a man who is a force to reckon with, who can not only match but surpass our capabilities, and such men are becoming increasingly hard to find.

As ususual, you nailed it Chrysalis!

For me, having my own business, etc, I really needed/wanted a man who is sure of himself and can take charge! Not that I let him walk all over me, but I truly am a submissive and love be taken by my man. (In more ways than one!)

I once had an assistant teacher who was 47 years old, twice married, who never had an orgasm. I was dumbfounded.

I don't know that i'm tired of taking charge but i'll add that nothing turns me on more than a man who can stimulate my mind and my body, and yes, they are becoming harder to find.

Yes I agree that some cultures are hotter than others. But my philosophy is closer to Teddy Roosevelt's "speak softly and carry a big stick" Of course, many of us here seem to carry that big stick ;)

My point is that even within certian 'hot' cultures, the man who has the confidence of "I'm not worried, I could kill you at any time" and can communicate that confidence are the true alphas.

The guys that wave their arms and yell "I'm gonna fuckin kill you!" have lost control, and probably suffer from low self esteem.

The situation in different cultures is the values that are appreciated...

Those hot cultures are full of corruption tha a male will be apreciated simply by their character, honor, honesty all that stuff...and bravery sometimes in high crime society is do not even walk with a stick or react because the bad guys have better weapons than the police...

And alpha male will be a working hard father of a family, a son that provides for his simblings and etc...

Simple men doing simple things...not heroic by the standards of other richer cultures..in some places even arriving safe from a day work is a great thing. Iam not being dramatic is just reality of majority of world population, because reality is not what happens in the US...

Is a jungle in many parts of this world. And to be a first class alpha male in a 1st world is a piece of cake is the land of opportunities if you work hard and dont waste time complaining. For sure I dont want with that to say people here do not struggle but excuse-me here is a paradise compared with many many places in this earth.

I say a well built woman deserves her well built man (in the full sense):)

I see you have few posts for the time you've been a member. This has really resonated with the women here. I'm making a mental note. And yes I see the past tense. :-(

quite a few of the ladies in here know what an alpha male is all about / its not about cock length (although it helps the image) , but more about presence tact understanding but with confidence and ability to make decisions, and yes sex / and a hell of a lot more to being an alpha male. drew

Yep, the thread began as a forum for sharing our own ideas about what makes an alpha male. My post asked about the assumptions or implications that come into play when we are playing the game of sharing those ideas.

"Alpha male" is, or was originally, a scientific term. Then "alpha" migrated to become a pop-cultural designation for a strong or hot or powerful or capable man -- supply your own adjective. My question is simply this: what work does the scientific origin of the term perform in its new, unscientific usage?

I suggested that, deriving as it does from animal studies, the term lends an air of naturalness to what is really learned and cultural.

In short, while it's sexy to think that an "alpha male" is expressing something like his animal nature, maybe instead he's just adept at internalizing a hodge-podge of conventional ideas about masculinity. (For a precis of those ideas, scan any of the posts here that describe the qualities possesed by alpha males.)

Giselle is right on for pointing out that one woman's alpha is another woman's porcine machismo....

And yes, conventional gender roles are boring. Sorry if that offends anyone. I mean, it's perfectly OK to be boring... someone has to do it. So run with it, honey, if it's you! But remember that there's nothing more boring than a boring person trying to prove that they are not, in fact, boring.

Alpha Males exist with us as a society. They take/are given the title by others. They often then feed off this power.

Was told to bring this song here :D
Now Playing: Survivor - "Eye of the Tiger" ~ this song is awesome when charging through social gatherings :D

Risin' up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive
I feel strong relevance in that entire song...

I don't consider myself an Alpha Male, I am my own man... rankings aren't needed, it is only power I require... the power to be myself, in spite of the odds.

Note: I was labelled a Scorequeen* in many online games (the terms given to me in reality are too varied), since I would usually be targeted, then retaliate by feeding and destroying the machine in order to give everyone else a chance to play the game... this usually landed me as either the #1 player, or commanding the most powerful forces. I guess... being the alpha male has just been forced upon me when I decide to stand up and fight, as I would rather dethrone the king than be a peasant.

But...

I would prefer not being ranked nor compared. The top has always been a cold lonely place for me,.. nobody else has ever wanted to step up with me.

Alpha is just something forced upon me by ranking against my warrior nature... tbh i'd rather be the Omega.

* Scorequeen ~ someone who loves hitting the top highscores.

btw. I came to LPSG to start a fight with one of my greatest known threats... myself. This might explain my huge post count... and why I let others jump in to fight these sides of me. *shrugs*

*toys with the idea of starting a thread with the question "What is a real woman?"*

Indeed Rob - feminism was much about women being freed to define themselves for themselves and not just for men and their wishes. I like the way that feminism has developed into the twenty first century - she isn't my choice, but Pam Anderson can be as much a feminist icon as Mary Wollstonecraft.

I say men should do the same. perhaps the fact that many of us are not is making MB's pool evaporate. I think anyone who has been here for a while will know my love and respect for women. But I will not remould myself simply to fit what I think women will want. After all, what women want from men and admire in men varies from woman to woman and culture to culture as Gisella points out.

I don't think that we live in a wolf pack - maybe a rat race  maybe animal farm - ho ho

Fun though the chat is and hopefully harmless, it is another label that frankly I think we men could do without.

This statement is rude, prejudiced, and insulting. At the very least you could have said, "I think conventional gender roles are boring." Presenting your own narrow-minded opinion as if it were a fact is not witty, and superciliousness does not become you.

In addition, if something about me threatens you so much that you feel the need to call me boring, then at least have the balls to come out and say it to my face. Don't bury it in a paragraph at the bottom of a post.
