you possess. Meaning, is there something that has been handed down from mother to daughter, father to son from generations gone by. Or something you have collected?

Something you would never part with and hope the tradition continues?

Wow. Has the text changed much from then to now, the story? is it the King James version?

Things or posessions becoming older, as we do. That be why the fascination me thinks.

Your thread? My sincere apologies if I stepped on yours kind sir.

The oldest thing I have is a 17th century ceramic japanese sake bottle that I got at a garage sale for $10.00 (I've subsequently found out that it's worth more)
I have some 19th century furniture and objects. Other than that the oldest thing is me.

I have a few personal items from my great-grandmother.... her coin purse that she kept things in. When I got it from my grandmother, I found inside a few coins and an obituary dated July 30, 1878 along with 2 other newspaper clippings of poetry... The obituary was lavishly written, full of flowery words.

I have paper money and coins dating back to early 1900's. I have some war coupons (rations). I also have a copy (wish I had the original) of a letter that was written to one of my ancestors in the 1700's. It is a love letter and is beautiful. The calligraphy handwriting is an obvious detail of the time. (One of my family memebers traced our geneology and found the letter.)

Not much really just a few things that remind me of the past and how every day things are changing, but there will always be a basic need in people to be loved and remembered.

I be a brickie by trade, Today I laid some bricks in a place I know will be there for the next 200 years or so. I suppose it caused me to think of antiques and things. As mortals we all pass on, we all would love to leave our mark upon this place we call Earth, just to let others know we were here.

For those that wish to leave there place in time for the future. Bury a time capsule in the back yard, whether it be your own or rented.. Sometime in the future you will be remembered. Forget the spray graffitti. Well, depends what you put in the capsule, no bodies allowed :) :) Something in your own handwriting, pics (non nude maybe:)) coin, a note of how you felt, weather. I do this at times when I build houses or chimneys. Like the masons of old, I always like to leave a handprint or message.

Sentimental crap :) :)

awww vibe... that is sentimental .. and lovely
Everyone wishes just a little bit of imortality. Just like the guys and gals that built the pyramids, castles, churches and fortresses. Always left a little of themselves behind for the future to ponder over :)

i have a set of antler handled knifes and forks made by a grandfather i never knew, he died long before i was born.
He probably made them with the knowledge and the hoping only, that one day he would be remembered as your grandfather who made them with his own hands.

My dad's stamp collection, I have an extensive coin collection that I started when I was a young boy. A cane that my great grandfather carved. There is more but I'm at a loss right now.
I really need to get both the stamp and coin collection appraised.

You have something more special than any monetary appraisal can bring wiseone. You have a connection with your past.

I know and it would be for insurance purposes only.

Oh, I just remembered I have a gold ring that my dad made me that I use to wear when I had a tail which I kept braided. Yes I know A TAIL!!!!! haha

I also have a diamond ring that was my dads and a ring that I had made out of my grandmothers engagement / wedding ring. My mom has told me that she is passing her rings on to me and I plan to add those to the ring.

My dad is 83, he was around here today, as he often is, we got to talking bout stuff. I got out an Oris watch he bought me when I was 14. Not that I wear any jewellery or stuff, but it bought back good memories of times gone by.

Wow this might seem minuscule but I have a quilt that was made by hand by my grandmother's late husbands mother. Both who are dead now(my grandmothers husband and his mother)
