The "Sexual Discussion Forum" invites many perspectives on numerous topics. When some people are challenged beyond their capability to respond cogently, they resort to vulgar language, much like a snarling, cornered animal. Is telling someone to "f*ck off," or some such equivalent, simply conceding defeat in the argument? Is the use of obscenities a boorish attempt to intimidate a person with a different perspective or cancel that person's voice? Do vulgarities help one save face by expressing defiance, like a small boy stamping his feet when he is told to go to bed? What theories do you have to offer?

It's a curiosity, not a complaint. Making one's point using profanity diminishes the credibility of the poster's perspective and of the poster himself. As such, I'm curious why so many here resort to profanity. Perhaps it is out of frustration they cannot express themselves better. Perhaps they lack education.

Because it isn't the fucking 50s anymore. This has already been covered.

I honestly wonder what you say when you stub your toe accidentally. Presumably it's going to be a bit Victorian.

I'm pretty sure people used foul language in the 1950's. And, when they did, they undermined their own intelligence and communication just as people do now -- just as you did to yourself. To address your wonderment, when I accidentally stub my toe I say, "Damn, my big hanging dick always gets in my way!"

Dick and damn are both swear words. So now it seems to just be the case that your pearl clutching sensibilities regarding swear words only kick in once the word "fuck" is uttered.

Your mentality is definitely stuck in the 1950's.

I'm talking more about the use of profanity and invectives where they are unnecessary to make one's point, and the intended and real effect that use has on other posters. Perhaps that helps to clarify so you can safely dismount your high-horse.

There are often lots of words that are not necessary and we might still use them. Swear words are typically used to add impact to a phrase, add some punch or flavor.

I think they should be used in moderation though or at least strategically, anything becomes stale if overused or beaten to death.
