This was just for fun....but back when Colin Powell was still thinking of running for president, or he just hadn't announced yet that he wasn't .....

He was on the Tonight Show and Jay gave him a slogan to use that would've been Soo much fun....

"General Confusion or General Powell...."

LOL

As things stand right now and as they have been for a long time, we might as well have an amendment to the constitution saying that the office of the president of the United States can only be occupied by a WHITE MALE over the age of 40. Brain cells are good to have but not an absolute necessity.

The conservative base of the Republican Party has in recent memory been the more energized, compared to the liberal "I care as long as it does not inconvenience me in any way" base of the Democratic Party. We may try to be politically correct and everything but the truth of the matter is that we will amend the constitution to allow Arnold Schwargnegger to run, long before we will let a woman, Hispanic or black anywhere near the office.

The sooner the Democratic Party realizes this and finds itself a good ole, charismatic, white boy the better. I am seriously afraid that if the dems do not find the above mentioned candidate soon, come January 20th, 2009 we all will be watching Jeb Bush's CORONATION on TV.

If the republicans are smart they will give John McCain the nomination. The man is like Bush in enough ways to placate the base of the party and unlike Bush in enough ways to get a good chunk of cross party votes.

How can you judge the health of the Democratic (or any) party by who chooses to run for its nomination? The party doesn't pick who's going to run, the individuals decide. Once a nominee is selected, then the party can take kudos or blame for its choice.

And I don't go for the 'pick a white boy or else' thinking. No social progress would ever have been made in the US with that rationale. Somebody's got to break through at some point -- what better time than now?

Jeb Bush has been CRUSHED in the polls by all of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Rudolph Giuliani and John McCain. It's probable at this point he is only so unpopular because of his brother, and by 2008 with some campaigning some of that guilt by association may be alleviated or redirected, but right now he would be a pretty poor choice and one of the few people IMO that the Republicans could run that would actually lose to Clinton.

I do agree with the sentiment that Clinton might railroad herself through to the nomination. Then again, it also seemed that way about Dean a few years back, until he made his pteryldactyl scream.

I like Obama, and given the choice between him, Clinton, or Edwards, I'll take Obama. Still, I'm not sure if he's electable, given what I said, which is kinda of sad, because he is not only smart and saavy, but might also be able to re-energize the country in a positive manner. I'd like to see Richardson of New Mexico make a serious run ... but I wonder if Clinton has stolen any thunder he may have had.

Think we'll see any surprises on the Republican side? I wish Christie Todd Whitman would run. She's one of the few Republicans I'd vote for ... though I'd imagine she'd get crushed.

At least Aussie politics seem even more whacked than what we've got in the US. John Howard v. Kevin Rudd? That's more like Giant Douche v. Turd Sandwich.

That's easy for you to say. You didn't have to live in NJ under the reign of Christine Todd Whitman! If I have to knock on every door from here to Kentucky I will not allow that She-Devil to be elected President!

I like Obama, and many in my state that ive talked to, do as well, however I think we all feel that he just doesnt have enough experience behind his belt yet to take on that kind of responsability.

Hopefully the Dem's will be smarter at this election and keep a keen eye out for what the Repubs are going to try to cheat on this time.

Gov. (NM) Bill Richardson (Dem) is also either seriously considering it, or he has announced already that he's in the race.

I've always liked him and I'd vote for him if I didn't like who the Republicans came up with.
But he's not flashy and knows he's pretty much an underdog.
That's sad, cause I think he'd make a good president.

Have heard some things about Hillary such as she's terrified people will find out how socialist her beliefs really are......
Until now she has only given interviews where they were scripted and they couldn't ask certain questions......but running for president....the press will ask her any damned thing they want....and she'll have to answer with Something.

She would Not be a president like Bill Clinton was (not talking about the extra-curricular stuff here).... he was a centrist compared to what Hillary's core beliefs are.

MZ, in an ideal world, yes perhaps Clinton/Obama would be a good ticket. Unfortunately, I betcha that even if our country WERE ready for (gasp) a female president, or (gasp) a Negro president, I seriously doubt too many bubbas are willing to let both of those slide by. Regardless of qualifications, Clinton/Obama would be a lose/lose ticket for the dems.

Exactly my original point. The Dems problem isn't the product, it's the salesman. That's something they just don't seem to understand.

I'm living in a fantasy world, aren't I? Dammit, I'm shutting the blinds and staying in. Again. People really are far more stupid than I accuse them of being.

Exactly what I said in my earlier post; rhetoric aside this country is not ready for any social advances like that. The Democrats need to find a good ole white boy that will connect with the bubbas and the playas and get the votes or they are doomed.

I have a feeling their individual egos would get in the way of a joint ticket more than their combined unpopularity among Republicans would.

Perhaps true, R... but simply from an "acceptability" standpoint, I'm just saying that the USA may possibly have evolved enough to accept one or the other, but no way both.

Yeah, MZ, you are an idealist. We've talked enough for you to know that I have an idealist heart, and pragmatic brain. Angst, talk about angst...
