I read that back in the day when America's founding fathers were debating national symbols Ben Franklin was pushing for ours to be the turkey instead of the bald eagle.

America represented by a turkey. Sigh, Ben was ahead of his time in so many ways.

Ours is the Bald Eagle.

Well this is a real toughie- For the land of my birth (Iraq) it's the Golden Eagle (of Saladin). And it's called a coat of arms.

For the land I currently reside in (and have for more than 48 years) and am a citizen of, it's the Bald Eagle. Hard to believe that Ben Franklin wanted the Turkey (Wild Turkey in particular- he seemed to have had a drinking problem).

Sheafs of wheat (to represent the farmers), a hammer (the laborers), and a compass (the intelligentsia).

The three heraldic animals animals on the shield of England were originally leopards, not lions, that is forgotten more often than not.
Note on the shilling, they lack manes.
On the full coat of arms, the supporter for England is a lion, as is the animal on the crest.

Ahem! I would expect an Irishman to know better.

Anyway, Scotland (where I'm originally from) has a few symbols - the lion, the unicorn, the thistle, the haggis - all of them tastefully presented in an understated way on our national coat of arms which you can see here:

Maybe I'm just not seeing it. Where is the haggis on your coat of arms?

Ours - The Arms of Canada - Description

It's late and I'm getting giddy. I couldn't help but laugh at one of our newest territory's choice. Shame on me. I guess a unicorn just wasn't good_enough.
