Wawa totally rocks. The delis I have been to have superior subs and sandwiches. Their coffee is awesome.

Oh yee of little faith...You do NOT get SUBS at a convenience store...You go to a sub shop.

We had a WaWa around the corner from us but I never indulged in any of their sandwiches. I would just run in for something forgotten at the larger grocery store and call it a day. As for it being a source of cuisine that is debatable.

Sylvia's food has become so commercialized..btw she was bought out by the Japanese...

I feel you about Sylvia's. I ate there way back in the day before she blew up and was all over TV. Went back with my wife a couple of years ago and it was NOT the same food at all.

No dis on the Japanese, but good Southern style soul food can't be taught and there is a style to it.

good Southern soul food, and good Sicilian food.

any soul food is good--southern or not. I had some wonderful soul food cooked by a woman from Grand Rapids, Michigan! LOL

As to Sicilian food, well, EVERYONE knows that real Italian food comes from Venezia.

Well, I'm from the Philadelphia area and we ate Hoagies, Cheesesteaks and of course Philly Soft Pretzels. I'm vegetarian now, so don't eat the first two, but I can still eat 14 dozen of the preztels in one sitting!

For those of you who don't know what the difference between a regular snack stand pretzel and a Philly Soft Pretzel are - it's the shape and texture...here's a picture:

http://www.roadfood.com/photos/3003.jpg

They're very firm around the edges and very moist and chewy in the middle. They're great plain or with a hearty mustard or cheesy sauce. They even carefully cut them in half and use them as the bread for sandwiches!

There's now Soft Pretzel Shops near where my Dad lives and when I visit I always get a few bags of them (for a few dollars) and distribute them around the family when I make my rounds visiting - they're always a welcomed site! YUM! I want some now!

See, now I know you are from North Jersey everyone south of the Driscoll bridge in New Jersey knows it's called a hoagie not a sub.

I hear you babe WAWA Rocks!

Really, I didn't find the Italian food in Venice to be as good as elsewhere in the country. However the chinese food in Venice and the surrounding area was AMAZING. Venice is where Marco Polo set out from and to where he returned so it makes sense.

I don't think we have any unique breakfasts where I'm from, unless you count the Brew-Thru's!!!
Okay, I'll bite...what is a Brew-Thru?

Mine are Funnell cakes and Southern BBQ
Love both, but funnel cakes are technically a Pennsylvania Dutch invention. Hmmm, now that I think about it they are responsible for many great food stuffs

I have seen Wawa stores on the interstate before, when driving up north, but have never stopped. You gotta stop! Added bonus they don't charge a fee to use their ATM's which are usually owned and operated by PNC Bank. The clown on the Circus Drive-In sign freaks me out. tee hee hee My friend Chuck hates it too. It just looks totally whacked!

Living here in Germany for the last 10 Years I've really learned to appreciate the excellent breads fresh from the baker that I get everyday(except Sunday!) But being a Blatino from the Miami area nothing beats a Big Fat Cuban Sandwich that's so big you can't put you mouth around it. That's always one of the first things I buy win I'm at home for a visit!:biggrin1:

Ohhh yummy! I love a good Cuban sandwich the best I have encountered in the NE United States is at the Hard Grove Cafe in Jersey City. It's owned by Cuban-Americans from Florida maybe thats why everything they make tastes so awesome.

Actually Hoagie comes from the Philly area. Down the shore they call it sub. It's actually a 50/50 split. From Wildwood south it's a Hoagie because thats where the Philadelphia folks go. I grew up in Monmouth county just 20 minutes from Belmar. when I was a kid, back in the early 1970's I remember there being many sub shops. However in recent years I have noticed an equal number of hoagie shops. Maybe thats just part of the globalization of America. :biggrin1:

p.s. you have winter-bush.
WTF?!?!? Stay on topic.

A brew-thru isn't really a food or anything. With all the talk of Wawa and everything I was basically just reminded of a peculiar convenience store that I've only seen in North Carolina. It's like a car-wash tunnel/garage, but instead of having swinging cloth strips and scrub brushes inside, it has beer. You basically just drive through, pick up whatever cases of beer you want, pay for them, and drive on out the other side. I've only seen them on the Outer Banks though.

I've heard that they have those in PA, as well. We don't have them in Charlotte and I don't think we have them in SC, either.

My favorite food is native to my state. Steamed crabs with old bay seasoning. Get some crabs, beer, and buttered rye bread and you got the best meal ever. :yumyum:

I absolutely love NC-Style barbecue from the Eastern part of my state.

And since I grew up in a bi-cultural household, I have always eaten Thai food... so my favorite Thai dish is panang gai (a curry dish with chicken). Mmm.
