Virgin Atlantic is my favorite, while British Airways and Delta both jockey for position as my least favorite.

When my flight was delayed 2+ hours due to snow, Virgin threw us a party. They put on great music I'd not yet heard, and encouraged dancing. They also brought out snacks and beverages. Then they still gave us our scheduled snack, beverages, and meals in-flight.

I also like Virgin though I've not flown with them for a while (back from Shanghai). They usually look after their customers when the chips are heading south.

I've never flown Delta, I try to avoid US carriers because of the mediocre service and inflated prices, except Southwest which ironically is one that gets regularly slated. That was awfully rude of the ground staff. Flying BA can be a lottery when it comes to quality of service. Most flights I do these days are on SAA, they usually go out of their way for me and have bailed me out more than once.

I'll be on SAA tomorrow evening, let's hope they continue to deliver with a smile.

To be honest, the BA ground staff were a pain in the butt, but it's the flight attendants who actually did me dirty. The ground people could have been nicer, but were nice enough. Once on board, however, every minor request was an unusual labor. When I asked for a blanket (fever made me feel cold) I might as well have been asking for one made of gold leaf.

dong20, have a very safe flight, and a wonderful trip. Come back with lots of stories, and 5 extra pounds of holiday fat!

This is an unusual thread but I have to agree with several others. Midwest is the best. I like the extra big seats and the cookies. The food is good too.

I flew on Aeroflot for the first time this summer and it was ok. The flight from Istanbul to Moscow was on a Tupolov 152. They had wood trim in the cabin! I was in business and the seats were super comfy, but I walked back into economy and it was pretty shabby. The flight from Moscow to Beijing was on a 767 and was equal to British Airways (nothing special). One thing not good was that the young, pretty stewardesses worked economy while we got the old fat ones up front. It didn't make sense.

China Southern is a good and comfortable airline. Their domestic flights are quite cheap.

Lufthansa is good but it is always too cold in the cabin, so remember to take a sweater. Air France is a disaster in every way except the food is great.
.

Was on an Aeroflot aircraft in the early 90s... remember the wood trim, hodge-podged patchwork putting green carpet... and will never forget the bathroom made of one single aluminum molding... the floor, walls, toilet, sink was all one piece. Smelled like aerosol cleaner.

New fave is Virgin America... have taken to Vegas a few times, and going non-stop to New York (from California) and looking forward to it. Though their planes still have the "industrial new plane" smell....

Sod the rest of em. I always fly Pam Ann.

Anyone flying to St Maarten? Enjoy the landing!

JUUUUUUUUUUUUUST flew into St Maarten.

That's nothing.... the flight from St Maarten to St Barth's(Barthelemy) is something to experience. Pilots landing in SBH require the "Qualifications de Terrain" card:

YouTube - Daedalush St Barths Airport

Planes have to drop 200ft+ within a short distance, then deal with a short runway that empties into the water about 50 ft after the end of it.

I loved those old 'Soviet era' aircraft. I've survived a few flights on them. Did you notice how they 'groaned' in turbulence, like old schooners ...

I am not a huge flyer, but I have had a great experiance with AirTran airways. I know they have a limited number of destinations, but i have flown with them on 2 trips. Each time they had new planes, the staff was not offensive, and my luggage was not lost. Oh yeah...and the prices were 1/2 what any of the other carriers had.

the best ones for me r: KLM, Finnair, Brittish Airways, Cathay, DragonAir, EVA Air and Korea Air (last two I havent gone business class with) and I've also flown Business Class with them. Both longhaul and domestic.

the worst ones for me r: RyanAir (SHITE), SAS, China Southern, Uni-Air

I tried Cathay this winter and was very unimpressed. It was the JFK- Hong Kong flight, but I got off in Vancouver. It was only 5 hours or so, so I didn't upgrade. Worst airline seat ever. Thin lumpy pad, but the terrible part is the seat doesn't exactly recline. The back is fixed and the seat part moves forward. It was painful after two hours and agony by the end. On the return trip I upgraded to business and was still unimpressed. Mediocre all the way. Oh and really late for no apparent reason. I think they have cheapened the service in the past few years or something, because it certainly isn't equal to other 4 star airlines. It was worse than BA or Air France.

Before the 9/11 thing, I was able to go on to the cockpit on the 747 from British Airways and take pictures during mid-flight! It was so awesome! My current favorite airline is Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij (KLM)!

Although I don't have much complaints with Delta Airlines, it's probably my least favorite.

Best: JetBlue or Southwest - they get me where I need to be, have great service out of my city, and have good policies for bags.

Worst: Delta - I have been delayed, stuck, or late more on this airline than any other, and they tried to kill me in one of their regional jets...
