Yeah, I have never really been afraid of bears either, but I was in a scary situation last week. I was on the farthest trail in its direction, and passed another hiker with a dog, he told me there was a bear up at the pond (where I was hiking to). I kept going and got to the pond, I heard the bear rustling around and making soft growling noises. I didn't think much of it, I just took my pictures and got out of his way and started heading back. Then, about 500m along the trail I spotted a mother and cub on the trail. I tried to let the mother/cub pass, but she spotted me. I waved my arms slowly and talked in a calm voice to let the bear know I'm human, but the bear still showed signs of aggression. So I continued to talk calmly, and started backing away slowly. But, the bear still didn't get the signs that I wasn't a threat, and so I was bluff charged. I guess it finally got the hint that I was submissive to it, and not a threat. The bear stayed where it was on the trail, so I had to make my own path off the trail for about half a mile until i reached the closest trail. The whole thing left me a little spooked, and seriously concidering buying a can of bear spray.
