Swim team locker room : Walk to my locker in my swimsuit (usually jammers) , then take it off (without wrapping myself in a towel) , grab a towel, walk to the shower area, shower naked, wrap the towel around my waist , walk back to my locker, towel dry , hang up the towel, put undies on

Regular college locker room : Walk to locker in my swimsuit (usually speedos) , grab a towel, walk to the shower area with my swimsuit still on - then observe. If there is at least one other person showering naked, I will shower naked as well. Else, I would shower with my speedo still on. Then wrap towel around my waist and walk to the locker
If the speedo is still on : take the towel off, dry my whole body, then wrap the towel around my waist again, dry off the groin area, put undies on under the towel
If the speedo is off : dry the groin area, put on undies under the towel, the take the towel off to dry off the rest of my body

Other places : I will only shower naked if at least half of the people there do so

What do you think about this ? Am I too shy ? Too exhibitionist ? Just right ?
What about you ?

Customs vary by nation. In UK very many pools are run by town councils and just about all have a “changing village” of single cubicles. Showering is in mixed sex showers, so with costume on. A few council run pools and many private pools have single sex locker rooms and gang showers. Here the convention is shower in costume on the way to the pool, naked on the way back. The walk from shower to locker is with towel, then dry and change without any excessive effort to hide.

it’s odd when anyone departs from the norm. In locker rooms there is occasionally a man who does the towel dance, but this just seems weird. Ditto someone who doesn’t strip for the showers.

Two scenarios.
First: After a 50 minute training at the private gym I usually head to the neareat LA Fitness.
Finish the day( upper body/lower body) for about 45 minutes, 10 ish minutes of abs or back extensions, head to the lockerroom to change for the pool.
Strip down completely, put clothes in a seperate

cot’d from above…
bag and change into a 1” side bikini for lap swims. Swim for 30 minutes, head to shower.
Rinse speedo, rinse off, head to sauna naked with towels and water bottle.
10 minutes in sauna, then a coldish shower, then back to the sauna…naked.

Out of sauna again, soap, exfoliate, back to locker naked. Apply coconut oil to counteract pool chemicals, fresh jock, jeans, t-shirt and out the door.
Second: Light days between training…

Shower, naked to the sauna for
15 minutes, back to shower, naked to the locker.
Repeat of application of coconuts oils, fresh jock, get dressed and out the door.
More guys are casually naked in the locker room this summer, maybe a new trend. The LA’s I visit regularly have a younger crowd that is starting to be more comfortable in the locker room, but I’m still the lone naked sitter in the sauna…

I pretty much always do the same:
Walk in (with my boots of if the ground was muddy), take off my clothes, grab a towel and flipflops, walk to the shower naked (wrapping your sweaty body with a clean towel for the sake of modesty is silly), shower and dry everything but my feet in the open shower area (so I don't get the locker room wet), walk naked to my locker, get dressed, do my hair, pack my dirty clothes and go.

I tend to find a locker close to the showers like most of the other's that have intentions of showering after their workout. I usually go to a locker take out my fresh clothes and rolled up towel and flip flops and place them toward the back for when I return to shower. After my workout I return to my locker and start by undressing. I am briefly nude for all to see for at least 2-3 minutes as I fold my soiled gym clothes. The soiled gym clothes are stuffed in a side pocket and I proceed to mix water with my shaker bottle of protein powder which I will carry with me to the shower to sip on as I shower. My flip flops are put on and I then grab my towel and drape it over my shoulder with most of the length hanging in the front so that when I walk to the shower I am slightly covered up. I only do this if there are a lot of guys in the lockerroom moving about. If the lockerroom is fairly empty with the exception of a few I'll just walk to the shower with my towel in hand.

I always strip naked and shower (especially my crotch) before putting on my costume. Lycra does not prevent faecal contamination which can result from toilet paper not being a totally reliable cleansing method.
After my swim I remove my costume in the shower and collect my towel and clothes naked before dressing.

Since having a major bowel cancer operation (completely successful and over 10 years ago), if there is a changing village with communal mixed-sex showers I insist on being able to shower naked and the staff have always provided me with the facility. If not it's a choice between acknowledging that they are OK with pool contamination or refunding my entrance money. I don't think most ticket offices have that capability.

To the original poster, you should do what you're comfortable with, but if you can, push back against the rather silly modesty "norms" that have sprung up. If it's only guys around, being naked should become a comfortable thing for you, if you can manage it. Showering in ANYthing is damned silly, in my mind...how can you soap and get clean everywhere if you're wearing something? The US has gotten damned strange on the modesty front.....

As for me, I arrive at the gym, strip naked, change to workout clothes and then do the machines/ treadmill. I come back to the locker room, strip naked, shower, then back to put on my swimsuit and enjoy the pool and hot tub. Lastly, strip and walk to the shower naked with a towel over shoulder, shower NAKED (lol) and then back to get dressed and leave.

In Denmark, the rules state that everyone must shower, using soap, before entering the swimming pool. Changing rooms and showers are separate for men and women. Swimwear or underwear aren't allowed in the showers and underwear under swimwear (why anyone would even think to do this) is not allowed in the swimming pool. Same goes for saunas which many swimming centres have, also separate for men and women and without swimwear. Towels are used to sit on for hygienic reasons and can be wrapped around the waist for those who are shy.
Only place I'd keep my swimwear on to shower would be in a outdoor shower at a beach, used by both men and women.

I am glad I grew up back in the dark ages.
Everyone would strip naked, put on a jockstrap, then the rest of our gym clothing, then go to PE class or workout or play racquetball.

Return to the locker room, strip down completely naked, carry towel or drape over shoulder, shower naked in the communal showers - I NEVER saw a private stall back then. Dry off in the drying area just outside the shower, and return naked to the lockers. Guys generally did some more drying off letting the groin area air dry as long as possible - t-shirt and shirt would go on before underpants to allow for maximum air drying.

Anyone doing today's popular "towel dance" would have been roundly ridiculed, and I NEVER saw anyone doing that.

I traveled around the world (missing the Mideast/Northern Africa, Russia and mainland China) and can attest that locker room customs vary considerably. But in many locations in the US, local customs can be the most prudish. If I am outside the US, I usually follow local standards so as to not 'rock the boat' as a visitor/guest. But, in the US I push the boundaries which means I would NEVER do a towel dance. Like Tony 56 above, I feel very natural being naked around other guys and it seems foolish to be excessively modest in an area where we are supposed to clean ourselves after a strenuous workout.

I strip down to change completely into gym clothes. After my workout, I strip, walk naked to the sinks to drop off a fresh sweat towel and my shaving kit and walk to the showers carrying (not wearing!) my shower towel. After showering, I lightly dry off so that I'm not dripping, leave my towel on a hook outside the shower area and walk naked to the sink. I place the fresh sweat towel in front of the sink, shave and then walk back to the shower to rinse any lather left on my face. That's when I dry more completely, go back to the sink to apply face moisturizer, deodorant, brush my hair and wipe down the sink and the area around it. I walk naked back to the locker with my towels and kit in hand to dress.

At my local gym, at least 50% of all the guys, a good percentage of them in their 30's or older, follow similar routines. At least 25% of the younger guys do as well. But I am in coastal California where nudity is more common in hot springs, intentional living communities and elsewhere.

Like others have suggested, go ahead and push the boundaries a little more. It's a lot less fuss and you'll end up feeling really clean when you leave the gym/pools.
