I don't have one per se, but I don't think I will be spending more than $500.

I do have to start shopping later today. The bad thing is that I don't know what to get a few people on my list.

What is the significance if someone spends a lot of money?

I don't really have a budget. I'll probably end up spending @$800 on gifts and @$3000 on dinners and parties.

If they have a lot it means that they are not cheap and they care enough for that person to show some kind of generosity at the end of the year.

I don't have a Christmas budget. I buy on sale whenever possible and don't go crazy. It is the thought and not how much you spend. For the person who has everything or if I'm stumped, I'll give them a gift card to a restaurant, Borders, or some other store. Or even just a general gift card that a mall will issue and you can use it in any store. It makes it easy on me and people love to get gift cards. I know I love to get them.

I'd say about $300.
My income in my immediate future is very unpredictable right now, so family says just give us nice letters in your Xmas cards.
And I'm fine with that.
The money will be for nicely wrapped booze and stuff like that when I go to Xmas parties.
I feel a bit cheap this year ... but can do nutting.

It means they have a larger disposable income.

I do all my shopping on the cheap. My friends and I do a gift exchange year and generally agree on a price limit. It's honest enough, people still get what they want, and they happen to save some money too. So it's a huge win-win.

About $500. I'm only buying a few select things for my nearest and dearest. I don't go for all the gift-giving with regards to distant friends and third cousins twice removed. Drives you nuts if you take it there.

I don't expect to get much change from $10 K. I have a party that costs at least $5 K - and yes CB, you are welcome.

I read somewhere that many gift cards often go unused. I think perhaps it's because people don't like the hassle of finding something they like for almost the exact amount on the card. I know whenever I've gotten gift cards before I've always had to supplement the amount with my own money in order to get what I really wanted.

Still, I think they are the easiest and surest route for people to go, but I think that people should avoid cards for specialty places like Hastings (I've gotten a few of those before) and Borders and go instead for ones to stores that have a wider selection of items and pricing like Target or Wal-Mart. The ones that are valid for all the stores in a mall are also a good choice I think.

My Christmas gift budget this year was almost nothing. I only bought one present (for my mom) and it was less than fifty dollars. I've never really given gifts to adults other than my mom. I have instead focused on my nieces and nephews in years past and have given them toys and even just envelopes with money so they could spend it on what they like. I don't think I've ever spent more than a couple hundred dollars on Christmas gifts.

I don't have a budget per se.

If I see something that I think someone I'm buying for will like and I can afford it, I'll buy it for them. If I can't then I won't, however that amount is arbitrary and depends on many factors - not least my mood at the time!! Anyway, something else always turns up.

I don't buy for that many people (maybe a dozen) so don't need to 'ration' if you will. I enjoy buying gifts for people on spec, and don't restrict this to Xmas and birthdays - carpe donum (close as I can recall).

Yes, my middle name used to be Ebeneezer - but I sold the rights a while back.

I'm poor, so it's only $200. In past years it has been as much as $700-$900.

Oh how the mighty have fallen!
