It's no surprise that nudity is everywhere these days, but the balance between male and female nudity has remained improper since forever. What tropes, trends and questions do you have about nudity in general? I want to limit this discussion to just television, movies and photographs since they are the main sources for skin in today's society. I asked this question on another forum and got a lot of interesting responses. The following are just a few gripes and questions I have towards the state of male exposure, especially when compared to their female counterparts. I'm sure that this will get lots of people talking!
Here are some (but not every) notable tropes about male nudity that I have come up with:
- There's almost more female nudity than male;
- A woman's breast can be shown unobstructed without hesitation, but a man can't show his dick (thought a woman's vagina is rarely shown either). I don't understand why the boob is seen as natural if straight men get titillated by their appearance;
- Older actors (over 50) are more comfortable at full frontal nudity than their younger counterparts;
- Likewise, older men are more willing to bare everything in any scene set at a nudist camp - one of few exceptions to this is Benjamin Heinrich going all the way in Pastewka;
- The severe lack of CFNM scenes in today's film and TV world. Andy Sandoval's excellent scene in Euphoria is a massive exception!
- Unnecessary coverage of male genatalia, whether through conveniently placed objects (CGI is the worst case of this) or just as bad, over the top pixelling where there really shouldn't be. America should be ashamed...
- Um, what's the point of wearing a cock sock if the cock isn't meant to be shown on screen? Remember when actors literally went au naturel all those years ago?
- Similarly, why do men wear prosthetics, particularly ones that look unrealistic as s**t?
- Why won't all hot men show everything? Have they seen what gets posted on social media today?
- Also, why won't these people go all the way unless they are specifically given a role that is seen as "serious" or if the role requires them to appear every bit as hideous as possible? I remember Zac Efron saying he'd go full frontal if the role asks for it or if he was nominated or something;
- Then again, when a very hot actor does get naked, why do they only show their ass? And why is the scene in question always shot in near darkness?
- Almost every time an actor shows a rear or a frontal and you don't see their face or at the very least anything notable on the actor's body that makes him easily identifiable (such as a distinctive mark or tattoos). What are the odds that the nudity was done by a body double? Almost every f***ing time this is the case!
- Why can't erections be shown? Don't say it's sexually arousing or it's too uncomfortable, especially given how much female nudity is shown free of censoring!
- This is one I'm sure a lot of people will agree on: how annoying is it when social media makes a big deal over a major actor getting naked, when we viewers are expecting something amazing (such as full frontal or even a decent rear scene) but in the end all we get is just side nudity or worse, an upper torso shot only?
