Been there -- it sucks... But somehow, eventually you force yourself to go on w/life...

Being helpless.

I counteract that fear by being prepared, by educating myself and being resourceful.

I live in the tropics where we get cyclones (hurricanes) so to counteract my fear of not being able to survive I put together a kit that would allow me to survive and be totally self sufficient for 6 weeks without using outside help or government supplied resources.
