This thread got me thinking, 'What runs in your family?' I don't mean things like great smiles or the ability to hold a grudge. I am thinking more along the lines of genetic or hereditary diseases.

    • A maternal and paternal aunt died from complications of breast cancer within 10 months of each other.
    • Lost a maternal uncle and a paternal great aunt to pancreatic cancer.
    • Maternal grandmother died of cervical cancer
Yup, cancer doesn't just run in my family it holds marathons. :frown1:

    Non-cancer hereditary disorders

The following run on both sides of my family as well

    • High blood pressure
    • Diabetes
    • Hyperactive thyroid
    • Depression (but I am the only one that admits it) :irked:
    • Nearsightedness
    • Deviated septums
    • Sleep apnea
    • Bad teeth
    • Narcolepsy (but I am the only one that admits it) :irked:
    • Great legs and butts :biggrin1: (there are some things you can't buy at Neiman-Marcus)
    • Weak stomach muscles run on my moms side of the family

Depression, alcoholism, cystic fibrosis (possibly as a cousin has it though we don't know if it's on my side or another), English teeth, second sight, presbyopia, deviated septums, male pattern baldness, premature graying, small willies, high intelligence, blond hair, and blue eyes.

My mom's mom has had breast cancer and she has heart problems. My mom's dad died of heart problems and he also had skin cancer at one time (I think...).

My mom has osteoporosis, scoleosis, diabetis, and a thyroid problem, but I think those are mainly due to medicines she has taken to keep her body from rejecting her liver since her transplant in 1985.

My dad doesn't really have any health problems that I'm aware of (despite the fact that he's been smoking since he first joined the Air Force back in the mid 80s).

I was told as a child that I had Bronchitus, but I haven't had any problems with it in years.

Not everyone is prone to depression. :irked:

I have Major Depression. I had a distant cousin who back in the 1940's went 'crazy' and shot his wife and kids then turned the gun on himself. :frown1: I just learned about that a few years ago.

    diabetes
    alcoholism
    drug abuse

depression. my grandpa slit his wrists when i was 7 and then had to get shock therapy. i've thought about suicide so much in my life, but that always scares me. i think "what if i'm unsuccessful and i have to get that done to me?"

    anxiety
    heart disease

sexual abuse. apparently my grandma was raped when she was a young adult. i have cousins who were sexually abused. i was sexually abused. only after i was sexually abused did i find out that one of my aunts and one of my uncles were sexually abused by the same man that abused me! (my grandpa's brother).

...that's all i can think of.

as for my dad's side, i have no clue since he was adopted when he was just 2 years old. we've never known them and my dad has never tried to find them.

Dear child, I am not gonna argue the semantics and nuances of depression with you. I've probably been in therapy longer than you've been alive.

Yes. Sometimes you remind me of the female equivalent of Woody Allen.
