Sadam's WMD found on Jane Fonda's Montana Ranch. Her secret life as a CIA double operative.
Guess you've never seen "The Wicker Man"?
The original with Edward Woodward (Sexy man if ever I saw one) was quite good. The remake a few years ago was pathetic.no. I didn't think I'd like it.

Well, it seems obvious that JQB has not converted anyone to his opinion in any thread in which he has been a significant contributor (Though I've only read maybe 30% of his posts... maybe less). As a matter of fact he has more effectively driven people in the opposite direction of the belief it would seem he is interested in fostering.
JQB, What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
Shhhhh! He's really a recruiter for us moonbats.
I think a great example of a straw man argument is to :
1. Claim a certain poster is a global warming denier;
2. Proceed to debate THAT position, much much easier to do than the person's actual position ;
3. Then calim victory when that position is defeated.
Idn't that right <cough> 160IQ < derisive chortle> ??
I thought we'd decided that he didn't deny GW was an issue, but debated how much of an issue, and suggested we do nothing about it since we'd failed at fixing everything else so there was little to no point in spending our time/money in attempting to fix this since based on history, it would be for nothing
(That was my rough understanding of it, either way its still a fucked up way of looking at things)
Agreed. Goes to show that a low budget flick can be effectively eerie with the proper cast, script, and direction. The remake was abysmally boring.
I didn't even know it was a remake. I thought you were referring to this one.

To avoid being accused of making straw-man arguments, the most effective tactic is probably to stop making them. That condition isn't sufficient, but it'd be a very good place to start.
However, as the straw-man format is the real core of public discourse - which acute observers have no doubt noticed consists mainly of two sides eternally talking past each other, and doing it loudly - don't expect it to go away any time soon, neither in the real world nor here in the LPSG peanut gallery.
