North Korea explains why it needs nukes | North Korea is well-known for its fiery rhetoric. But yesterday the regime adopted a more measured tone to explain why it needs nuclear weapons. In a six-page statement to journalists attending a foreign ministers summit in Manila, it said that nukes are the only way of preventing a U.S. attack and pointed out that neither Iraq nor Afghanistan had a deterrent when they were invaded by the superpower. Other countries have nothing to fear, the statement said.

Whole world knows USA is way way superior than North Korea military talking, US win (no need to be a genious), someone has to take care of the people there after the war, who is gonna do it? North Korea has no oil or any good commodity.

This is a very tricky situation. If North Korea bombs Guam they can't expect the US to stand around and do nothing, if the US bombs North Korea we can't expect China to stand around and do nothing. Beijing is not that far from Pyongyang. This whole situation is very sad/unintelligent.

If you are the leader of North Korea, what do you have to lose? You have a population that doesn't know what exists outside its borders, and believes whatever you tell them. If you launch an attack and are incinerated in retaliation, your people will believe that your enemy was the aggressor. So your play is to be a bully and extort others with rhetoric and threats... If China would close the land border and cease all trade, this would end pretty quickly, but at a significant human cost to the NK population..

I always go back to comparing the leaders of these nations to Henry Kane in Poltergeist II, with the black hat (You're all gonna die!!!), pretty much convincing every one of his followers to follow him into a hole in the ground. I think they're short-sighted, just thinking of ways to keep people believing what I say... They don't think long term..

I think North Korea is crazier than Iran, but the answer is the same for both: remind them of MAD and ignore them.

Let them rattle their sabers, stroke their nuclear missiles and enjoy their nationalistic masturbation. They're never going to use them first. Any nuclear consummation will result in national suicide.
