One last thing, promise. Does anyone know if this is a pretty nice hotel? Was the best rate I could find closest to our point of interest:

Hotel

Actually, I stayed at The Edison Hotel on 47/8th St back in 2002. Just book the room and feel fine. The hotel lobby is in the art deco style - that's the only truly nice feature... It's convenient, though ... no real view to speak of, but it is still convenient. Besides, there are so many other hotels around... You can go to their hotel lounges if you want to...

It's about as reasonable as you are going to get in/near Times Sq. w/o breaking the bank. Finding hotel rooms at a decent rate is like playing a game of Monopoly in itself... You can spend days strategizing and trying to find the right location/amenities/price combination.

A Hotel Room in Times Sq. is going to run you $300 to $350 per night these days at the standards - Sheraton, Westins, W Hotels, Marriotts... The rates are up about $100 per night from this time, say a year or two ago. Heck, back in 1999, you would expect to pay ~ $125 - $175 per night for these exact same rooms. Prices have just gone up because of

(1) the decline of the US $$
(2) international tourists from UK and EU have currencies that make the rooms more affordable.
(3) Times Sq. is just the most desirable (from a tourist perspective) place to be in Manhattan
(4) The big hotels are all in collusion with rate prices. They're trying to make up for lost revenue after 9/11/2001.

You are lucky to be going in the Spring... prices always go up after Memorial Day.

Thanks, once again HB. We got the room for 185$, not bad I suppose.....especially for NYC standards. We were anticipating a big expense for this trip, but wanted to cut corners where we could, obviously not on the show, or dinner :biggrin1: Everything is now reserved, and we are eating at that Asian restaurant....yummmm!

I'm glad to hear that the reservations are complete -- and your justification is very reasonable. Your current hotel rate matches the rate that I paid back in 2002 if you account for the rate of increase over the years. I visit Manhattan 2 of 3x a year, so the hotel rates game has turned into a science.

** Since you are putting down $$ for this trip, make certain that you put it on a credit card where you're getting some rewards or points... Hotel and travel bills really rack up the points... The trick is just to pay the bill off as quickly as possible afterwards -- escape the nasty interest fees. **

Good point! My Daddy (bless him) footed the bill for the hotel room, and I'm sure being the profit conscious business man that he is, gets rewards for his CC purchases...I'll keep it in mind for other stuff though.
