I am allergic to cats, dogs, horses, rabbits and pretty much everything with a fur (besides 40 other allergies), so I have..........birds! lol
I currently own and breed Gloster canaries. I've always had canaries my whole life, my parents already had one when I was born, so I grew up with them.
We also had cats when I was growing up, but when they found out I was highly allergic to them, we had to give them away :frown1:
I also had zebra finches until last year. LOUD little creatures. And annoying as hell! But totally cute too.
I am glad I have discovered Gloster canaries for me. They are very very calm (I call them Buddha- they are so relaxed!), very eager to learn, see and try new things (food or discovering spots in my house- my male often ends up in the kitchen or any other room in the house when flying around, I think his GPS is broke) and what I love most about them is how tame they get. Not too usual with other canaries, unless you offer them food to pick from your hand. Mine come on my shoulder cause they love to and love to cuddle.
Yeah, what can I say, I love them to death!
First two pics are of my female (yes, she was sleeping on my finger!), third pic is of my male Gloster

There's only a few animals listed that at some time i haven't kept as a pet during my life. As i now only live part time at home and part time at work, i don't keep any pets, but i am surrounded by wildlife who either live in my house or are regular visitors.

My home is a haven for various breeds of geckos. Pythons will move into the ceiling for a few months at a time to nest or slumber in the cold months. Tree snakes come hunting for frogs during the wet season. Sometimes we give each other a fright, but quickly get over it and then go on about our business. Everyday, at dawn and dusk my home is surrounded by wallabies feeding in the lush garden. Skinks are everywhere and the goannas come to clean up the kitchen scraps i thow out. Sunbirds build their nests on my clothes line, and shrike thrushes in the hanging baskets around the verandah. Everytime i start up the lawn mower, kookaburras and magpies fly down and land on the fence waiting for me to start so they can pick up the insects etc in my mown wake.

I do miss the companionship of having a dog or cat, the amazing and almost spiritual bond one develops with a horse, but i have learned that i do not need to own or possess another creature to enjoy it's company and share our mutual homes.

Currently 2 dogs and 2 guinea pigs - formerly quite a few cats (consecutively, not more than 3 at once). I'd love to have a cat now but my current abode is just not suitable - a road out front and fields full of foxes out back. As a kid I also kept things like tadpoles (releasing when mature), sticklebacks, spiders, centipedes and an earthworm called Rover of whom I was very fond.

My family had a german shepard until I was three or four years old. I used to torture her and try to ride her like a cowboy.

When we had a saltwater aquarium, we used to have several fish, but no goldfish.

We have also had two cats in the past, and currently have two cats. I can live without them, but when they're kittens, they're a lot of fun.

Right now, I have my DYH amazon parrot, Sammy, who will be 21 in March. I grew up with dogs and the "living room aquarium", but those that were "mine" started with a tank set up for anoles, then later I had guinea pigs and took over my sister's hamsters when she got tired of them. My first bird was a BF amazon parrot, Popeye, who sadly passed away from a mysterious illness when he was just 5 (I was 19...he came to college with me....but died just before the second semester). I had fostered a plucked wild-caught Noble macaw for a year until I found a breeder who had a nice female waiting for him.

I had two ferrets after Popeye died -- Sabastian and Cabot -- but REALLY missed having a bird. Since ferrets and birds don't mix, I gave the former to a friend of mine and ended up adopting a Dusky conure, Archie, from another friend who moved to South Africa. Archie was adorable, but I really missed having an amazon, and about a year after getting Archie, I found Sammy in a pet store. In the beginning, they were fine, but after a while, the tiny Archie just mercilessly harassed and tormented Sammy, so I decided to find her a buddy. When it came time for me to move out on my own, I had to give Archie and her unnamed boyfriend to another friend, who kept them as a non-breeding "pet pair."

When I moved out on my own, the first thing I wanted was a planted freshwater aquarium, so I set up a 75gal with driftwood, lots of plants, and mostly small peaceful fish. I also had freshwater shrimp and some dwarf African frogs in there. I had it for several years and through three different addresses (breaking it down and putting it back together was not fun -- took a whole day). I miss that tank, but I couldn't take it with me to Buffalo.....I learned that until I buy a home, I'll have to stick to small tanks that are more easily transported.

I've always had dogs. Reptiles and rodents scare me a little. I've always thought an aquarium full of beautiful tropical fish would be lovely.

It's even more lovely when you incorporate live plants and driftwood.

;-)

Enjoy some shots of my old 75gal from before I moved to Buffalo. The layout changes slightly as plants grow, get thinned/trimmed, switched out, etc. -- but that's the fun!

I grew up with dogs and cats and fish. They all died in captivity.

I'm current without pets, and that suits me fine, thanks.

ETA: my ex "saved" several turtles, all of whom died under his "care": ugh! Yuck!

I didn't vote, though I have had many different kinds of pets.

I only wanted to mention my current little love, a black cat rescued from Hurricane Katrina when she was a kitten. She was named Serena, and I kept the name. She is my little buddy.

Have had all kinds of pets over the years--cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, fish, frogs, crayfish, Sea-Monkeys, hermit crabs, turtles, and probably a few I'm forgetting. Currently have two black cats.

I grew up in the sticks on a hobby farm. I had a horse, EZ (pictured in my album). She passed away about 6 months after that picture was taken. I miss her, and one day hope to have the money/space to have another horse. I think I'll go for another chestnut Morgan, if I can find one. Also on the farm at various times were laying hens, ducks, pigs, and cattle. We had quite the crop of barn cats. Indoors, we always kept at least 1 cat and a dog.

Nowadays I live in the suburbs with my husband and keep an aquarium with some snails and shrimp. Will probably add a few neons at some point. We also have a bowl with a calico goldfish. Our main bud is Leo; a Bengal kitty we rescued from a shelter. He's a sweetie, and beautiful, to boot. I want to get another kitten soon, to keep Leo company, as he gets lonely during the day when everyone is away at work/school.

In my San Francisco "hippie palace" below Coit Tower I inherited a ferret from a renter who could not take it with him to Japan where he was taking on a new job. Her name was Faucet (the ferret, not the renter). Actually Faucet was a very affectionate animal that would eat anything, but especially loved Cheetos. One day Faucet decided to become a ferrel ferret and moved under back porch/stair case. Still, she would come out to play every morning when I went into the tiny back yard of lawn and broke out part of a can of cat food for her. She died of natural causes (age) under the back porch.

We have two rescue beach dogs of indeterminate age. The Squeeze insisted that we bring them home from Sitges one day about 7 years ago. They show a bit of snowy white hair around their noses, but still frolic like puppies showing no sign of wear and tear from age. We just call them "Las Chicas" or "Chicas."

My current favorite companion is a lavishly overbred Beta Splenden (Siamese Fighting Fish) that I've named Lorenzo. He has his own heated 20 litre aquarium placed on my desk where he gets a good bit of sunshine each day. Whenever I sit down to write he watches me, lazily swimming back and forth, but always with one eye directed at me. I'm certain if he were big enough he would eat me. He has an iridescent blue body and long flowing "butterfly" fins (think excessive drag ball gown) that are colored pink and beige -- excessively long like drapery. He's quite the dandy. He's constantly building bubble nests so about every six months I drop a female in his tank. He's brutal. The female barely survives. But he's good at squeezing all of the eggs out of the rent girls I pick for him. And he spends several weeks tending to his clutch of eggs. When they hatch he seems to be able to tolerate his brood for about three to four weeks until he starts biting chunks out of them. That's when I gather his spawn and throw them in a tank with the females I've rescued after his studly trysts. I donate his children (except for the seriously strangely colored ones) to a friend who has an aquaria. He raises them to semi-adulthood and sells them.

Lorenzo is getting on in years (3 years since I purchased him as an adult). The whole experience of having him around is so . . . Siamese?

Oh, yeah . . . on my ranch in Nevada I have a horse named Trusty. He is anything but. My father pawned him off on me. When I asked "How old is this horse?" My father flatly responded, "He's old enough to vote."
