i second this...

my first was as a checkout chick at a supermarket....i think i was paid like 15 and hour...

which now seems like alot when looking at everyone elses hourly pay...

is $.5 an hour even legal?!

Depends when they were in the job and what country it was in. If you were paid $15 an hour as a checkout chick, I'm assuming you're a young-un?

I sold the morning paper at a train stop back when I was thirteen one summer.
A few hours a day from 6AM to about 9 or 10AM. Made about $10-$20 a day, much of which was immediately spent at the record store, local arcade and a Chinese Food restaurant. Good times.

Ironically this was around the time when I got my first real BJ. Really good times!

I was a do-it-all guy for a big home construction company. Cleaned up sites, moisture-proofed crawl spaces, accompanied building inspectors, scraped goo off floors to be carpeted, touch-up painted, landscaped, and did the punch list. The best part is that I got to drive the company dump truck and talk on a radio. I was #47. In the course of my six months I destroyed the side mirror on the truck, and one garage door. I quit when I found an opportunity in real estate development, but I still remember that job fondly. I loved driving that truck.

Stacking shelves in the local 'Spar' grocery shop. (may even have been a 'Mace' at the time). I was 13 and earned 65p an hour.

My first job was working on a big trawler when it came in. We were emptying the ship of cod caught in the north Atlantic and then salted on board.
We were walking in tons and tons of salt in the bottom of the ship while piling the fish up so the crane could take it up to the docks and the fish factory. -Sometimes it all came crashing down to us again... Dangerous shit.
I was 12-13 yrs. at that time.

My very first job was at a tack shop in Austin. I almost overdosed from the smell of leather. That got me a job in the stables which I loved. Is it freaky that the smell of horse poop makes me feel like I'm home?

When i turned 17 I got a job with a city directory book. I had to go door-to-door taking information. I didn't like that job at all. The money was good, but people are just weird.

Washing pots and pans at Morrison's cafeteria. I lasted about a month. Then I worked at McDonalds for a bit until I got fired for having long hair. The real reason was my refusal to let the manager suck my dick. My brothers teased me for years over that. I never worked in food service again.

Shoveling turkey shit into a never-ending line of manure spreaders inside over heated and poorly ventilated poultry brooder coops. It was quality work done by hand . . . with a scoop shovel . . . . Got paid a whole 50 cents a hour. I was 8 years-old. Boy, the 1950s were such a wonderful, blissful time.

I must have missed this last time it came up.

I feel EXACTLY the same way about the smells of leather and horse poo! This is another first job I am jealous of

At 12 and 13 I delivered the Lewiston Tribune with my older brother in Lewiston Idaho and then from 15 to 18 worked weekends and 2 afternoons weekly at a Stouffer's restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh (Penna). when we moved east. Later, thank my lucky stars I bailed from college and got into trash:smile:.

Sassy, your avatar is exactly my idea of how 'shy librarians' should look... they should all be proprietorially cutting edge... LOL.... i love you ;)

As for me... gotta say working in the local videostore during my early high school years had it's perks....(oddly enough, most days seemed like re-hashed scenes out of 'clerks') and yes, there was always the cliched and seemingly obligatory creepy person that would zealously rent from the porn-shelves and smile/wink in my direction after leaving with said article ('shortbus' was rented several times by a particular client...we didn't have an 'art' or 'alternative' catalogue shelf and everything even slightly left of the middle-sexually speaking- got shelved with porn).
The really weird part was how we shelved the porn section right next to 'kiddies' and 'animated'.... who was i to judge.. the kids are are 'future' big spenders!!!!
Also worked as a tele-canvasser for a political party just before municipal elections.... a party whose political views i knew nothing about and when i did find out, cared very little for.....I was very apolitical back then...... but the pay was great. The fallout from opposition party supporters when getting them on the line, would have been funny...... if i thought that being called a political shag-about and floor-crossing boy-whore was funny.... i guess in retrospect, it is pretty fucking hilarious.
