For me personally, I'd say the "less is more" approach works phenomenally. I do a 10-minute simple stretching routine followed by 3 rest days and proper nutrition for recovery and I have been consistently seeing gains. I would encourage others to try this if you haven't been seeing gains from more involved/extensive routines.
Though, I will also note that my whole body works this way. At the gym, if I spend more than 30 minutes lifting weights then I will not see muscle gains- but if I'm quick and only do what I feel is absolutely necessary, then I will get bigger and stronger. Of course everyone's body is different, but I would strongly encourage more people to try the "less is more" approach!
