I spent both yesterday morning and afternoon (going to and from work) sitting in a traffic jam on the highway...what is ordinarily a half hour journey, became about two hours long.

In the midst of waiting patiently and contemplating phoning the office to tell them that I wasn't coming in cos like hell was I going to sit through that, the CD changed and a song came on that led me to sing and dance behind the wheel...to the amusement of other motorists. I kept playing it over and over again...all the way to and from work...
and this morning again.... and now again.....

I've been asking myself, "What about the song has made me behave in such a crazy manner?" Then it dawned on me, it is an upbeat song, with beautiful lyrics. Lyrics which bear testament to the meaning of my life's calling. So I was wondering, at the risk of starting another thread discussing music, are there any other members that have crossed paths with a song with deep meaning.
Do you hold a song dear to your heart because it's message expresses a part of your inner reality...Lyrics that set a standard for you in your everyday life...a theme song for your life as such?
If so, what is the song?
And what are the most powerful lyrics to you?

My newly adopted theme song is "A Song for the Lonely" by Cher

The lyrics that strike a deep chord within me comes in the form of the chorus:

This is a song for the lonely,
    can you hear me tonight?
For the broken hearted, battle scarred,
    I'll be by your side.
This is a song for the lonely,
when your dreams won't come true,
    Can you hear this prayer?
    Cos someone's there for you.

Cher? You need to bump your 30% up a few points.

I entertain my fellow sufferers in traffic by blowing bubbles out the car window and occasionally donning a clown nose.

Glamorous by Fergie.... I'll dance to that song no matter where I hear it. When I woke up from surgery, the song was in my head, and I started singing it...

This song makes me cry every time I hear it. It means a LOT to me and my life.

    Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd

    If I leave here tomorrow
    Would you still remember me?
For I must be travelling on, now,
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
    Lord knows, I can't change.

Bye, bye, its been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I can't change.
But please don't take it badly,
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
    Lord knows, I can't change.
Lord help me, I can't change.

(Change all the "girls" to "guy" or "boy" or "man" or something and it makes more sense for me. :p )

Well I have many songs that make me behave like that in the car - 10's certainly - possibly 100's - my song of the moment, however, is Elvis Costello & The Attractions, (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding:

    As I walk through
    This wicked world
Searchin for light in the darkness of insanity.

    I ask myself
    Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And each time I feel like this inside,
Theres one thing I wanna know:
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding? ohhhh
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?

lyrics alone aren't it - it's the way he sings it - this vid is a bit *yawn*, soz - 1st youtube hit, y'know... minimize and listen, if interested..

I went through a tough time emotionally after the birth of one of my sons.

After sorting myself out and learning what was wrong , leaving the Specialist office I felt on top of the world (that I wasn't dying ) after about 12 months of anguish.

I jumped into the car, turn the radio on and I hear the song , "I can see clearly now the rain has gone", by Jonny Nash.

Even today it makes me get all misty eyed and feel empowered just through hearing it.

It is my theme song that always cheers me up ( even if to some it may be a little depressing :) and simple)

    Lyrics

"I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
    Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin?for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
    Sun-Shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothin but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
    Sun-Shiny day. "

There are many, but currently I can only think of From small things, big things come (heehee - Hi LPSG!:biggrin1:) by Bruce Springsteen. I can't say the lyrics every exactly matched my situation, you can google them up if you want, but they stroke my chord for acrid humor.

(towards the end of it) <.> she shot him dead, on a sunday Florida road /
When they caught her, all she said was she couldn't stand the way he drove
    <.>

It's also one of the few songs that I can sing from the first to the last word, and it was helping me to time my showers, for it's exactly 3:45 in length.

    I don't ever follow fashions,
I look only just like me.

I don't ever fling the guanlet
and don't judge the one next to me
but if they offend my own life
    there will be no forgiveness

    I hate the hipocrisy
of the ones pretending to be
    stainless heroes

But if you will show me
    who you really are
    you could count on me
    I will always be faithful
    You will never lose me
