My gym provides its members clean workout clothes daily -- shorts, t-shirts, socks and jockstraps. They also provide all the toiletries you'd need to shower, shave and be on your way, so all you really need to bring each day is your own sneakers. Still, in addition to bringing my sneaks, I always pack my own:

socks
underwear
deoderant
workout gloves

Lightweight cotton t shirt, usually one of the old brown issue shirts, Spandex shorts, running tights, short socks and track pants. Oh, a towel (usually grab one that is too small to cover much) and bodywash and "scrubby". Oh Recently an I pod...

I'm surprised how many people wear weight belts.

Even though I have an hourglass figure I have yet to find a belt that fits comfortably around my waist without getting snagged under the bottom edge of my rib cage.
I do my squats in the power rack without one.

I wish I didn't have to

I had back surgery about 15 yrs ago, and even though my back is probably my strongest area lifting and weight wise, it can go out so easily, that I use my belt more for the feeling of being aligned, than actual lifting support.

Sorry about your dicky back.
I'm surprised my back is as good as it is after all the bad falls I've had.
Horses can be really bad for your health.
