Having had a discussion recently with friends, I wondered what you all thought about the increasing need, certainly here in the UK national TV, to cover, hide, mask woman's nipples.
I refer to the need that has become normal recently to make sure that woman's nipples are not visable while on TV shows. With most having to wear nipple covers or patches to make sure that the nipple is not visable.

So what is more offensive? Seeing a natural part of the womans body as in the nipple or seeing a patch under the clothing clearly hiding the nipple.

The most obvious is the BBC National News weather reports done every day by a lovely Scottish woman who clearly wears 'nipple covers'.

No I'm not a perv' I just love us all to be natural.

I'll take a soft-stance on this one and say that I don't necessarily think that one is more offensive than other. Those sorts of protocols are typically enacted because a given society has deemed something to be either acceptable, or unacceptable. Following from that logic, the primary viewership of those broadcasts that you have cited likely object to protruding nipples, and so the media outlet would rather err on the side of caution and keep things hidden.

Do I think that is ridiculous? Yes. I would rather notice a nipple printing through fabric than the pasty trying to hide it. One could, however, just be careful when choosing their attire and avoid both issues (visible nipple and visible pasty) altogether.

I'd consider the paranoia about showing a nipple annoying, but not exactly offensive.

It does offend me that male nudity is treated worse than female nudity. That's some straight up sexism there. That's off topic though.

I know here, it has to do with dress codes. Where I work it's required to wear a bra. I don't wear them nor do I own any so that is an issue for me. In my case, since I'm a cheap ass bitch, I wear cotton tanks under my shirts like a camisole. Double layered so my massively small breasts don't offend or accidentally make young boys get hard ons. Which is funny because I can see most women's nipples through their bras.

I disagree with you about inequality about nudity. American television is far more likely to show a bare male chest because female breasts are considered to be more titillating, but male and female genitals are both completely banned from network televisionm

Very true if you're considering the chest.

I was thinking "R" rated material when I wrote that, but yes, you are right.

urm.. i don't care either way.

ya assuming the lady/nipple supporter in question is being forced to conform to external sense of decorum. she might not want her titteh-barometers on display. ya know.. in spite of the slut-tastic current state of womangs style.. not all ladies want their jibblies to lead the way.

if the weather lady is all "MY NIPPLES ARE NOT FREE!!" i'd so defend her right to peak/peek/pique through her shirt
