As a 2005 Chicago Marathoner..plug plug..if you are running over 5 /6 miles, wear a good ole fashion jock strap. Dont suffer with a mild ball ache wearing underware.
Compression shorts, personally I am not a fan.

so i guess the majority says under Armour compression boxers.
I have never used a jockstrap so that would be my second choice. Don't know how comfortable they are.

I usually go commando for my runs. I run about 3.5 miles a few times a week. I have big thighs and butt so its more comfortable for me. I have used the compression shorts but they cause issues for me.
This threat will be beneficial in giving new ideas since winter is here.

I usually run just wearing onion skin shorts. I do have a few older pairs of them that the liner has worn out, so I've cut it out. Under those, i wear a good old bike jock.

Moisture wicking is generally a must. I tend to run with the specialized running shorts that have a liner built in. It keeps me comfortable and avoids any chafing.

Academy Sports has many of UnderArmour's boxerjocks, jock straps, and compression pants. and, at least in this area, there is an UnderArmour outlet store.

The built in briefs in running shorts work for me. I was a collegiate runner and tried running professionally for a while. And you can check my pics to see what I have to support. I have more problems when cycling. Those cycling shorts compress the donger but it can still work its way to the side and rub against the cycling short pad seem. Can get pretty irritating. In the warm weather its no problem as I just reach done there and adjust things. But when its cold and I have heavy gloves on it's tough.
