Twilight - Light from the sky at dusk or dawn

That brings to mind another of my favourite words that refers to dusk: evenfall. Ther's also evendim, but that term is so archaic that it rarely puts in an appearance even in dictionaries.

I always liked quizzes. The first time I played Scrabble, it was my first word, for 118 points. (One of the Z's was a blank.)

Innocuous- Having no adverse effect, harmless

Rhododendron- Any of various evergreen shrubs of said genus, having variously colored flower clusters

Vacillate- To sway from side to side. To swing indecisively between courses of actions or opinions.

Ellipsis- the omission of a word or phrase required for a complete syntactical construction, but not necessary for understanding.

Phlebotomy- The medical practice of opening a vein by incision or puncture to draw blood.

Those are some winners I've come across lately. Innocuous I've always loved, and often used in ways it doesn't actually work, but I like the sound of it. Rhododendron I just like to see in print. The others I like mostly because it amuses me that there are words that mean something so specific, particularly ellipsis.

Jonb, I got Quiz once where the Q was on a triple letter and the Z was on the triple word. I don't remember what the total points were, but that was certainly my best ever.

I always like Spanish-derivative words of eight letters or more. The Q's and Z's, combined with the potential for two triple word scores, makes for

The record, if Wikipedia can be trusted, is caziques, for 392 points.

Or if you turn it into a present active participle - fucking - it can be used as two other parts of speech:

ADJECTIVE. "Hey! That's my fucking car!" (Adjective modifying the noun car.)

ADVERB. "That felt so fucking good!" (Adverb modifying the adjective good.)

It's a useful fucking word.

Indeed it is. And here's an educational film (FLASH required) to tell you all about the various linguistic uses of fuck:
