Speaking for me: I really don't like them at all. In porn it's a huge turn-off ;) in real person even more.

Do you have thoughts about that? Are there like any practical advantages (or disadvantages)? Or just aesthetic reasons?

just curious :)

those nails make me shudder. Who wants one up their ass, on their cock or anywhere else. I especially get a kick at a retail outlet where someone is trying to use anything mechanical or with buttons by using those claws......LOL

I think they are yuck and impractile. I am a woman and keep my nails cut short and filed. Very rarely i will wear some nail polish but mostly not. Usually those nails are worn by high maintenance women. I doubt many would enjoy going fishing and hiking or paintballing.

There are those that wear them for vanity, and often like a lot of really large rings. Having the longer nails with enough real estate to paint pictures on is not something every woman would like. But I've seen some that were really unique.
I know many women who have acrylics or nail wraps because they just tend to have paper thin nails and might not even be able to get the nail past the tip. These women are not looking for the daggers, just a way to have a more attractive nail because they feel very self conscious about their own. I've have a friend years and her nails literally peel the top layer. They just can't get any length. It may be genetic or lack of some vitamins . Long as I've known here, she's had problems with her nails.

I can't wear nails that are much past my finger because I have to wear gloves all the time.
( when actually working with a patient) Same goes for rings. As a midwife , my hands are also in some delicate areas and gloves are not enough to protect the patient from pokey nails or rings. When working all I can wear is my smooth wedding band, and that gets covered with powder from the gloves.

Most women do include nails in their grooming. Especially if they like jewelry such as bracelets, watches and rings. But not all women can grow much of a nail. I do use a gell coating that I set with an light. Tends to last a good 2 weeks. I usually put a pale pink or peach polish on the nails, between the gell. Time consuming, but it works for me.
Hand washing is my biggest problem and the hardest on nails.

Then there are toe nails. I have seen some women with some long -assed toe nails. Nails you wouldn't want poking a tender, or valuable area! One woman had toe nails so long that I would imagine she had to size up her sandles because those nails didn't extend past the shoe. Pretty color, and she managed to get studs in the big toenail.
It was hard not to look at them. But I guess that's the point.

I do general toenail care and I do use polish on my toenails in summer. It was only about 6 years ago that my hubby told me how much he like my toe nails polished. Only took him 20 years to say so. ;)

Women's grooming can be a complex. Whenever delivering in hospital or birthing center; it's always interesting to see the differences in what different women pack in their personal bag. Anywhere from just a lipgloss, to bag of make-up ,favorite stuffed animal. Make up bag with some make up, and photo albums. Oh, makeup, pjs and camera.( daddy forgets things) I've seen many dad sent home for things "she" had to have. And no make up, but multiple curling irons, dryers and stylers. Of course, you have the g'mums on both sides who are sure daughter or DIL needs ( bags full of stuff) However, where to put it all?
Me, I had packed my pillow , ex blanket, lipstick and mascara. My daughter was too quick for all of us though.

Off topic here: as I click around the telly again, it seems we have too many channels ( cable at least) and all kinds of silly reality shows. Nothing surprises me anymore. How long until a show about 'what people pack'.

I know no guys that think long fake nails or painted on eyebrows are in the least bit sexy. and I actually do ask guys I know and work with... I've yet to find even one that thinks either is hot.

Do why the fuck do they do it?
Dont even get me started on the bumpit....!

I have fake fingernails and you can think what you like. I get acrylic nails because my natural ones do not grow, they flake off and break in odd shapes. They tend to look horrid when you leave them to try and grow on their own even with help from special polishes, manicures, etc. My fake nails are not long like claws or daggers they are kept anywhere from 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch past the end of my finger. They are never done in weird colors. Most of the time I keep them done in a french manicure style and the weirdest thing I do to them which I do quite often is have them use a pink glitter powder for the french pink part. It adds a bit of sparkle and color without going overboard. I happen to get a ton of compliments on my nails, many many more than I have ever gotten in response to my natural nails. I do it for myself and perhaps because I have noticed I get more positive comments about my fake ones. Many of my past boyfriends have liked them and quite honestly fake nails are like anything else in this world. Some people like them and some people don't. Whatever you decide is your opinion and you're welcome to it but I can promise you it won't change my mind about how I feel about them.

Oh dear - the Bumpit!

Bumpits - Hair Volumnizing Inserts - BUMP IT UP!

As to nails, I'm a short & natural girl, but lots of my friends love the acrylic ones. For the most part their own nails are soft and peel. Personally, I do notice another woman's finger & toenails so maybe other women do as well. Perhaps the acrylic look is what they like and is what they prefer. Not my preference, but no - I wouldn't want one of those nails up my sensitive areas!

The bumpits are those things in the commercials where you put them under the hair and it makes your hair look big. For some reason people really like them. I don't see the point, honestly. I don't see the point in the long, fake nails either. I can see the reasoning if your nails didn't grow right or what-not. But as far as I can tell, they're very impractical. I don't find them sexy at all.

These are fashions that have gone in and out over the centuries. Some people can pull them off and others can't. Also, I know men who enjoy getting clawed up  and proudly wear the marks I have given them upon their backs in my passion.

However, fake nails would come unglued during that passion. They are only for show. My marks are made by my own talons, which I keep short and do not paint.

I find it interesting that several people have said that the women they know with fake nails have natural nails that break easily. Is it possible that their nails break easily because they've spent their adult life putting glue and polish on their nails? (ie. they've caused the damage themselves.)

(Genuine question. I am a natural nail girl and don't have a clue when it comes to stuff like this.)

My nails have never come unglued as they are acrylic powder on top of my natural nails. To be honest they have rarely even broken off and on the occasions they did even a natural nail probably would have been broken off. I have no issues using my nails to express my passion if the occasion calls for it.

My nails have been brittle and sensitive since childhood. I spent close to 17 years with horrible looking nails and trying to fix them with vitamins and special nail hardening polishes before I gave in and got acrylic nails for my senior pictures. I highly doubt I caused the damage myself. I liked the way the fake nails looked more than my own so I have kept them for the majority of my adult life, though I have gone several stretches without them. Not to mention the fact that my nail beds are slightly crooked so fake nails fix this imperfection and make my nails appear to be straighter than they actually are.

As in other mammalian species, nail development is a clue to overall health of the beast. Not every body has the same capacity to grow strong nails. Good diet helps. My late mom in law said she had nice nails from eating so much Jell-O. But vegetarians often have lovely nails. It's to do with metabolism and heredity etc.

As my family members age their fingernails get weaker, full of ridges, and generally betray worse constitution of the organism. Harsh chemicals on the hands and my work in ceramicsa take a toll. Lovely talons are a display of not having to 'lift a finger' as a manual laborer.
