Whats up with more and more privet shower stalls at the gym? i went to my gym and it was all open showers when i joined a few years ago. over time they kept adding privet shower stalls and slowly raising gym membership to do it and maintain it. now there i two open stalls that i still use. are people afraid to shower in "public" i mean where all guys and have a penis?

    I wouldn't.

I have a sense of modesty and wouldn't want other men looking at my cock in public. Nor would I feel comfortable in a room full of naked men.

Yeah, since you avoid gyms you wouldn't be aware, but the latest rage in gymnasiums is foliage in the locker rooms. Palms by the WC, tulips at the sinks, a banzai plant in each locker, and full privet hedges lining shower areas.

An evergreen hedging shrub. I recommend the Golden variety:

Buy Golden Privet - Ligustrum ovalifolium aureum

It's part of an overall trend. Notice how many more mens rooms have those little divers between the urinals? Notice how people who take a picture of a baby in the bath get branded as kiddie pornographers? Notice how the slightest allusion to sexual content in the workplace is turned into the moral equivalent of rape?

It's a backlash, I think, against the inreasing sexualization of our society. So, ironically, as the world gets more overtly sexual, those who fear all things remotely sexual are winnng small victories in service of their fears. But they're on the wrong side of history, so in ghe long run, fear not.

There endeth the rant for today.

    Well, it is America.

As ONE gay man, I don't mind the privatizations of the lockerroom showers and public restrooms. After working out...the last thing I want is to get a hard on by compulsively looking at a guy's penis in the shower. I don't go trolling for cock in the shower EVEN though I do get horny after working out. I respect men's privacy and boundaries.

Besides, I like working out at home. And I don't have to worry about pissing off some straight guy or gay guy in a public gym who gets offended when I chub up after looking at their cocks in the shower. At home, I have my own private shower. I don't have ANY athlete's feet or jock itch infection issues there. Which both happened to me at a public gym.

But if some gay men are peeved about the privatization of the restroom facilities and lockerroom facilities. Build a gym: have communal showers and have open barrack style toilets. But you had better have members that are RESPECTFUL of peeps' right not to be harassed.

I think you're correct right up to the conclusion. It seems to be a comforting cliche that some how, Republican Neo-Puritans are doing this as an act of subjugation. I think this is actually coming from two other, separate places:

    1) When everything got sexualized, previously "neutral" places like locker rooms also became sexualized as well. 50% of the postings on this board prove it. Remember the slogan "we are everywhere"? Congratulations it worked! Now guys are incredibly suspicious of each other.

Now this is gonna surprise all of you... but straight guys do not want to have to deal with this *at all*. This is why so many guys make a bee-line to the toilet stalls to go pee-pee.

    2) The other reason you have all these stall showers and private urinals is that Lawyers have tapped into the subject of sexual harassment. It's a BIG moneymaker for them if the right (read corporate) people can be sued.

Since these cases are now adjudicated on the slightest of standards, and the damages now come from those with the deepest pockets (which was NOT THE STANDARD in the 1960's) any corporation that can not demonstrate that it took positive, concrete, demonstrable steps to prevent sexual harassment or public sexual activity can be held liable.

Under the expensive majesty of civil law, to even witness what might be sexual contact is grounds for a law suit. God help you if somebody under 17 witnessed it while using your facility's showers or toilets.

You guys still with me? It's not Carl Rove... you got the world you asked for, including the details you didn't count on.

Are you sure you're not going to a gym frequented by these guys? They're into shrubbery you know.

Your point 1 puts it very well. Back in the day, people could be oblivious about places that were, whether they acknowledged it or not, sexualized. Like a locker room. They didn't know anyone who might be into that, and surely it doesn't go on here, not in a place they'd be in.

Now people have had to acknowledge that yes, somebody might be admiring the view of your sweet ass. Because yes, people with those kinds of tastes are in fact out there. They even met some of them.

BTW: nice to hear a conservative voice on here!

You sound offended that people want to be more "privet". I'm a shy person as well, I normally don't enjoy showering openly with a group of guys, not saying I mind it, but I could care less one way or the other.
