- b.c.,
An odd question, I know but I've been seeing the number in odd little combinations here and there and I've begun to wonder if there was something I was missing.
I looked up "8" by itself and got nothing (well, plenty on "8 1/2", or "8.5" but "8"... nothing).
I mean, it's so prevalent it seems almost in one's face. Not subtle like a 44 for example.........
Wikipedia (a handy little gem) says much about it. In Asian culture it's a lucky number (the luckiest of them all). And wasn't there the Crazy 88's in Kill Bill? (Who, as it turned out, weren't so lucky after all, I guess).
Wiki also says it's a neo-Nazi symbol, but so is 14/88 and a bunch of other numbers (see Hate Number Symbols - From A Visual Database of Extremist Symbols, Logos and Tattoos ). So I'd imagine there's more to the number than that.
Not to mention that it has significance in "hip hop", where 88 stands for "HH".
And there was the film 88 Minutes (which I guess sounds better than "66 Minutes" or "99"..... I guess).
Maybe that's it. Maybe it's just how the number sounds. Though I personally was always partial to "729".
(well, not really...)
