i think, rather than ordering a circumcision for your baby, the doctor should walk in when the guy turns 18 and ask if he wants him to chop off the end of his dick. guess they wouldn't stay in business very long with that though
You are an absolute idiot!!!! Circumcising doesn't chop off the end of the penis it removes the foreskin the end of your stick is still there. It's people(?) like you spreading lies about what a circumcision is that make people think it's bad.

Yeah, but if it works to turn poeple agaisnt it.....
Besides, the point is well taken, how many guys who can make thier own adult decision and have no associated medical problems would consent? Few, I suspect. Therefore, barring URGENT medical need it should be and adult decision like all other forms of cosmetic surgery.

Ethically, yes, it *should* be left to the son to decide. I'd say starting at age 10.

The thing is that if you grow up in a circumcised society, leaving the son uncut through puberty can be very mean because he will be made to feel inferior/different and lose self confidence. In such cases, as much as I hate to say it, Dr Spock was right in saying you should have your son cut at birth so he will "fit in".

In a society where it is truly 50/50, then the "so he will not feel different" no longer applies. I am not talking about some statistics produced by anti circ, I am talking about real locker rooms for men of that age group. (aka: reality).

In a society where few are circumcised, then "fitting in" argument kicks in again, this time in favour of leaving him uncut.

10 is too young to make a permanent decision about the rest of your life.
Would you let him go to war at 10? Get married? Vote? How is circumcision any different?
Why should the age of choice be any younger than full adulthood?
Locker rooms don't make a shitting bit of difference. When was the last time you heard of someone getting surgically altered, so they could fit in in a locker room? I think society is not that intolerant, at least anywhere I've been.

If your son at age 10 tells you he wishes to be circumcised, would you refuse his desire ?

If you refuse his desire, he will go through puberty feeling different/inferior. That is bad.

Some people don't develop a desire to be cut, others do. It all depends on the environment where they grow up. Someone in sweden where 101% of men are uncut would not likely develop a desire to be cut. Perhaps a partial circ if his foreskin is too long.

But someone in the middle east where 99% of men are cut would definitely feel different with a foreskin.

Go to war...no he isnt physically ready
Get Married...no...I doubt he can even get an erection
Vote...yes...because you have 80 year olds who probably cant make as good a decision as some 10 year olds

If my son comes to me at 10 and wants one and has valid reasons then yes I would give it to him.
But this will be moot in my household since he wont even have to ask...

Absolutely. I'd tell him he can get part of his dick cut off when he's old enough to make an informed decision and pay for it himself.

Your comments about culture will be reversed when the numbers are reversed, which hopefully will not be too long now.

one word : never unless for serious reason

99 % percent of the problem with child's foreskin are solved later in pre-teen age.
So circumcision is useless.

I would absolutely refuse. A 10 year old is not mature enough to be making decisions which would affect the rest of his life.
"If you refuse his desire, he will go through puberty feeling different/inferior. That is bad."

Pure projection.

"Perhaps a partial circ if his foreskin is too long."
It's not too long, if he is not tripping on it. It's his genetic heritage.
Should I allow him a nose job at 10? Or should he just learn that people have differences, and learn to accept them?

"But someone in the middle east where 99% of men are cut would definitely feel different with a foreskin."

Again, projection. Circumcision is a guideline in Islam, from the Hadith, not a rule. I have it from a British man who lived in Saudi Arabia for 14 years that 10% of Saudis are uncircumcised. Many Jews are also uncircumcised, particularly Russians living in Israel.

It should be done... coz' its clean!

A mouth without a tongue is cleaner. Should we have our tongues removed?

How much effort do you think it takes, to retract the foreskin, and spend two seconds rubbing with your thumb in the shower, or at the sink?

There is no medical society in the world which states that circumcision is cleaner than the daily washing of a penis with a foreskin.

Circumcision is not necessary ****IF**** the parents are not affraid to teach proper hygiene to their son at the right age, and ****IF**** the parents themselves are not affraid to touch their son's penis and retract skin as soon as it is retractable to start to wash it.

The problem is that a large enough percentage of parents do NOT do these things, and this leads to many children without proper instict to retract foreksin and wash underneath, and of those, a higher percentage will have phimosis and/or many infections during lifetime.

Some parents are affraid to touch their son's penis for fear they will be labeled pedophiles or incestuous or whatever.

One of the main reasons circumcision is rare in scandinavia isn't because blonds have different foreksins, it is because the culture there has no problem with parents taking proper hygiene procedures of their son's penis and teaching him how to handle it.

The whole anti-circ propaganda to "leave it alone, it doesn't need retracting" is begging for trouble because while this may be applicable in the first months of life, parents take this to be applicable to all childhood. And it is very wrong to give them that impression.

Repetition of the same old superstition Concis. The body's orifices are mostly self-maintaining. How do you think indigenous peoples and horses and livestock handle these sorts of things? I call total bullshit.

You don't get infections from your own body. Infections are caused by micro-organisms.

Hey pro circumcision guys here's a question for ya. If a woman's vagina is hard to keep clean (afterall we do have lots of folds and are very prone to yeast infections or other irritation) should we just chop off the labia? It would be much cleaner if we did, and if not...why not??

Thanks seaside. Foreskin fiddling by caregivers is more likely to cause problems than alleviate them. A lot of "had to be" circumcisions start with too much "care."

Male and Females are different and always have been. I would not support circumcision via the cleanliness argument therefore generalizing the support of circumcision via the method you have is not viable for me.

I am against Female Circumcision. My reasons are because there are numerous peer reviewed studies out there that show a significant decrease in just the woman even wanting to have sex. This to me is counterproductive to why we primarily exist...to extend our life on this planet.

On the flip side my support for circumcision stems from once being uncut and now experiencing a cut penis and the differences are moot. My preference at this moment is a circumcised penis. At the same time I find it to be ultimately a trivial choice for a man because there are ultimately more important things.

I will have my child circumcised if I ever do have a boy. This decision does not affect ANY of you.

OK then it would be fair of me to ask you this question...

If I choose to surgically alter my daughter, have her labia removed and I tell you I will be doing it at birth, would YOU feel something..a little pain..anything? Afterall it doesnt' "affect you"..
