Fahrvergnügen baby! Fahrvergnügen. Like riding the stick shift.

My Hyundai has a stick, and rack and pinion steering too. Plus it hasn't rusted out half so fast as a VW. To get true VW mileage though I would have to trade it in for a newer one, as they are touting the hybrids as getting 40mpg now.

I think you have to be able to look past the obvious sometimes and look at the person and their demeanor, manners and how they speak and conduct themselves to get an idea of who the person is.
That being said I drive a snazzy mercedes and my other half (who is still taking drivers education...he only this year is learning to drive) has a used Honda that I sometimes drive (to do dirty work) And I don't get the looks of admiration (especially from valet attendants) that I sometimes get when I drive my car, but that's life.

I get the feeling that we all like to think we're unbiased and never judge a person by his material showings but the reality is the ugly rich guys always seem to have the pretty girls and boys hanging off their arm. Donald Trump for one. Giannani Versace for two.

I have found the rich guy with the over priced car 80% of the time is ugly on the inside.

I also tend to be one who drives my purchased brand new American company vehicles until their wheels fall off. I want to get the last cent out of them.

Do you really want a girl/boy who judges people by what they drive. I have a few male friends who rent cars to go on their first three dates (same girl/guy), then that fourth date they see the real car. Gets rid of the gold diggers super fast!

Then there is my brother who drives a 100% beat up truck(clean inside) to the bars to pick up women, only after a few dates does he let them finally see the loaded Hummer 3.

To be honest it does not matter what kind of car someone drives as like others have said it is just to get you from point A to point B. Some people prefer to drive used or older cars because they don't want to pay outrageous amounts of money for a "status" symbol to simply drive around in. I have known many people who do exactly that but have more money then they know what to do with it.

I fully agree with you.
In case I do own a Bentley, I would ask me best friend(who owns a garage ) to borrow an average car.

First of all, I don't like to show my financial position's on a first date.
Second, she might think I need to compensate something else

I wouldn't be embarrassed at all about the Hyundai, but the car should be clean inside. If she's refusing me because of this old barrel she's just a ordinary golddigger.

So less is more for me...

I never judge a man by his material possessions {or lack there of}. I prefer personality and morals. If he doesn't cheat, lie or steal {or use drugs}, I'm willing to give him a chance. As far as I'm concerned, a car is just something that gets you from point A to point B...Having said that, I do own a new Altima and a new 4x4 pickup. AND, I'M FUCKING SINGLE!:frown1:

I agree. If my date pulled up in a beat up car, I would have thoughts but would reserve until speaking to the person. If they are hard working, smart, and have their head on straight, it would not bother me as much. My first serious relationship was with my girlfriend who drove a beat up 10 year old Miata. I did not pass judgement, I just tended to drive everywhere. :biggrin1:

Might also come from being the only girl in the family...But give me a stick anyday! :)

I've had my Audi since 2003 and 115,000 miles on it and still in pristine condition. Hand washed only and taken care of religiously. I get offers left on my windshield asking if I'm willing to sell all the time. NEVER!!!

I agree with what others have said- you can't judge based on a car. Everyone has different priorities in life, and different directions that they funnel their money. I'm a car guy myself, and hate to say that I've made snap judgements on people based on what they drive, but once I meet the person and learn more about them, I always change my view, so I've gotten a lot better about it over the past couple of years.

For example, I have a client at work who is married, mid 40's, has a small "starter" home that needs some work, and drives a beat up, rusty Grand Am. Judging him by his outward appearance would make you think this dude is a failure, but talk to him about his investments, and he'll show you his portfolio, which is valued near 650K.

You are a rare car chick, psg.

My sister washes her car every 4 months with dishwasher powder and worn out underwear and dries her car by going 80 mph on the freeway after she washes.

imo, material things don't determine what makes the man/woman. i'm not materialistic, so the vehicle someone drives wouldn't matter to me. initially I might pass a bit of judgement, but that's common nature upon meeting someone, as you measure them up, and try to put together who you think they might be. once you get to know the person, all the material stuff goes out the window, you can't take any of your belongings with you once you're gone, so I tend to look past all the materialistic possessions and try to determine their worth that way...

Well, I drive a Hyundai! Brand new tho....lol. I guess I kind of care what my date pulls up in - a smoke belching multi coloured car with McDonalds' bags littered around isn't going to impress me. But a normal car/truck that's well kept - I'm good!

Nowhere near you
I never worry about the car my date is driving, unless it seems unsafe (in which case I'd worry about her or worry about riding with her). That would have to be one pretty beat-up car.

I don't attach a lot of importance to cars, so I'm sure I've failed to impress dates in the past.

what if he showed up in a bentley ....

.... then took you back to his mom's basement? is that sexy?

Bentley? Mom's Basement. Someone has money! Either he does he just lives there because mom does his laundry, or she's the one with the dollars. Wait, is this is a finished basement with locks on the door? How many square feet is this basement? Is his mom a bitch? Because I deal with him! I'll make sure he likes it so he can put a ring on it, and mom will love me- thank you for the wedding gift!

Hahaha..gods yes I have had a "date" pull up in a less then spiffy ride.

One of my good "mates" pulled up in a beat up Land Cruiser ute that looked like it had spent most of it's life as a bull catcher.
There were an assortment of fencing tools, rolls of 10 guage wire, bits of loose hay, 3 filth encrusted cattle dogs snarling over what looked like a half consumed road kill in the back tray.
In the cab I had to make room among the bridles and saddle blankets because the dogs couldn't be trusted not to chew them up.

WE had a blast.
He was a really sweet guy with a heart of gold who would have done anything for me.
