lol I eat all that junky stuff and like it. The Chicken a la King Naughty mentioned is a delicacy to my redneck ass.

The only food that doesn't fly for me is jello. Jello seems more like a chemical than food. The consistency freaks me out. I can slam raw oysters all day but no jello please.

Vienna sausages are made from chicken lips, frog fins, and horse feathers. Yum! (NOT!)

You talkin' about salchichas? I know I can never convince my dude to be a vegetarian, but I will not stop trying to get him to give up arroz con salchichas. It's delicious, and I make it well (better, now that I know how to make pagao and sofrito) but those little franks are so gross when you think about them. I did like the taste as a child, but how could my mother have fed me that crap? LOL I have found a vegan company that makes pretty decent hot dogs. I don't think those are particularly good for anybody either, but I feel much less guilty feeding my boyfrirend those than actual vienna sausages. How doe sthis stuff get invented?

Let me see if I can gross-out someone:

Heat a skillet to medium temp., add some butter.

Fry Vienna Sausages until brown.

Drain on paper towels.

Serious note: My mother used to fix that when I was a kid. I loved it!

I have found two brands of chicken hotdogs that I like. Since I have stopped eating beef and red meat, I look for alternatives for some of the things I like. The chicken hotdogs are pretty good--one brand is organic, so I don't feel too bad about eating the processed meat. I try not to eat a lot of processed meats, due to the high sodium content, and since I have high blood pressure, that's a concern, but as long as I don't eat hotdogs every day, I think it's ok for a guilty pleasure once in a while. Eating food like hotdogs brings back all sorts of good memories of childhood--just like Jello and cooked pudding.

But why bother when there is so much unadulterated good food out there?

Because sometimes you have to feed your base desires. I love real food more than most people, I'm sure, but sometimes one has to indulge their secret inner desires for junk food and processed foods. As a foodie, I try to keep these desires for junk food hidden, but it just has to rear its ugly head sometimes! :biggrin1:

Is there any substantive difference between scrapple and liver pudding? Or are those regional names for the same thing?

I know nothing about liver pudding but I really do like scrapple (they call it panhas where I lived in Upstate NY.) It's a Pennsylvania Deutsch effort to use as much of the leftover pig as possible (after the main meats are removed,) mixed with cornmeal.

Therefore, it's offal

My mom is from Philly and loves scrapple. My dad is from a rural, farm town in NJ and hates it. Like any good daddy's girl I hate it too. Dad says scrapple is made from everything but the snout, the tail, and the squeak. :biggrin1:

That always makes me laugh. :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

Nova Scotia, too.
Couldn't be the whole country could it?

Yes, Vachon products are available in all of Canada. It started years ago in Quebec as a small family business. I think their success started when they got out of the bread business and started making little cakes. Don't quote me on this. I read an article about the company a few years back so the detail are sketchy at best. Nevertheless, a find Canadian Tradition.

I still adore the Vachon Ah Caramel. Those little chocolate covered white cupcakettes with a swirl of caramel on the top. I noticed just last week that the box now says that it contains 90% less trans fat than it used to. I'm sure it will still rot my insides but at least they are not as bad as they used to be. I rarely buy these but every once in a while......

I still occasionally buy a box of Captain Crunch. I loved it as a kid and still love it.

As for a food I'd like to see banned.............
Fruit Roll ups. The kids actually think it's a healthy snack to bring to school.
Flakes of ham, turkey, chicken etc. That "meat" in a tin. I've always thought that Flakes of Cardboard would be a better name.

A note to snackers one and all. One posting a few days ago mentioned their fast motabolism.......Always remember that a fast matabolism may protect you from weight gain but your arteries can still clog up too. A whole bag of Oreos! Now I'm not saying that I couldn'nt eat a whole bag, but always be aware of your health

Most store bought cookies are not worth the calories.

Any product offered by those cullinary mutators, Taco Bell.
Cheese Whiz
Nutella
Pork Rinds

I was amazed to see that all the chocolate filled crapes in Paris were made with Nutella. I love it but it's full of hydrongenated this and that.

Uh, Jeff, isn't that true of any processed, pre-packaged food? A lot of people think I'm crazy for preferring to make so many things "from scratch," but I just trust myself more than I trust the QC guys at most processing plants. My partner and I both love ice cream, but so far my assertion that I make tastier, more wholesome, cheaper ice cream hasn't made much of an impression on him.

I used to love chorizo, until I read the ingredients. I don't care how delicious it may be, I will never eat it again!
My mom always used to make us chorizo when we were little, but I hated it! Interestingly though, it is one of the ingredients in one of my most favorite things in this world: a stuffed sopaipilla from my favorite local Mexican restaurant.

I was introduced to Frito Pie by a friend in Blue Ridge, GA about 5 years ago. It was so good, so carb, meat, salt, and preservative laden that I think my eyes may have rolled back in my head.

Everytime I visit Georgia I have to have a Frito Pie.
