I'm worried I'll have to surrender my American Man card. Not only do I binge-watch the Olympics, but I'm watching events what Americans aren't participating in. I watched the Men's Team Gymnastics medal ceremony . . . .and the Americans hadn't won a medal. I just had on Brazil vs Japan in water polo, and I don't even really understand water polo.

I refuse to watch Olympics held in third world shit holes.

The Brazilian's protesting have every right to when the government can't afford the most basic of services to
it's own population and then tries to build and accommodate and event like the Olympics *with disastrous results*
I simply don't blame the Brazilian's for being very angry.

The same was true with the Olympics held in India. Swimmers getting sick from swimming in pool
water that wasn't correctly sanitized. The Olympic village was sub-standard.

I gather that this is some sort of altruistic gesture in gifting Olympics to third world nations
to give them an economic boost but I do wonder how much of the funds got channeled into the
pockets of corrupt government officials rather than olympic infrastructure.
Going by the clusterfuck that is the olympic village I'm guessing it's a lot.

I've sort of lost interest over the years. While I wish the athletes competing all the best, I just find the whole thing a little difficult to swallow in this day and age.

It's a competition between the haves, the have nots struggle just to feed themselves just to be able to train.

It's just not a fair competition, and it is supposed to be.

I know athletes put in the hard yards with training no matter where they live, but it all comes down to support and money in the end.

Yeah, it's a scandalous but why boycott the athletes, competition, that have nothing to do with the politics and corruption of it all?

Btw the Olympics have never been held in India.

Boo Hooo, oh no, the USA, or AUS has just won another gold medal.

What....Botswana has won a what.....???? YYYYYAAAAAAAAY... If only there was some thing.

Ever gone down the medal table, to all those countries??

Yeah.

When the track and field events start a few of my team mates are on team Canada and some I've known since gr2

That's really cool. I don't know anyone on the U.S. women's field hockey team, but most of them grew up within an hour's drive of here.

There's a shot putter whose dad is a Uber driver. The dad had a passenger during the Dem Nat'l Convention, and they started talking, and he said his son would be competing but he's be watching from home because of the expense of going. The woman started a Go Fund Me for him and raised enough money for him to go to Rio.

.

I feel this way about the Russian athletes. In a lot of ways, I don't think they're guilty. It's was the Russian gov't that is the guilty party. I heard it explained like this: It was as if an official in Obama's cabinet orchestrated a doping program, the CIA and FBI were responsible for the cover-up, and hundreds of people in the government were part of it. Can you really blame a young adult for doping under those circumstances?

All sports that are televised and broadcast around the world are the same. It's always about money....and more money. Using the name "Olympics" is just another hyped product brand like the NFL or NBA. It does have some sexual aspects to it in that we get to watch healthy athletic types in very revealing gear show off their talents. I always liked the porn stories lines about sports and competition, especially when the competition entails who has the biggest tits, the biggest dick or shoots the most cum and has the most orgasms. The rare area where humor and sexual acts meet.

Trinidad, Botswana, can't help but cheer for the underdog. Yet these guys are there, makes the Olympics

I moved to Atlanta during the '96 Olympics. It was surreal, but it was a wonderful welcome party! Except for the bombing. I had been to the park only hours earlier. I wondered if I had made a mistake moving my daughter to a place like this.

But the games themselves are addictive. I learned that there are Olympic groupies that go to every games every four years. And I can understand why. I told my daughter that we need to make plans to go to Sydney in 2000. Unfortunately, that never happened, but if it ever gets close again I'll be there.

I love the games and what they stand for. I don't care for NBA players taking part, however.

I always enjoy the opening, when they come in by country, especially dressed in a nod to their culture. Most look so excited to be there. I can't imagine the feeling. I wish most weren't taking video on cell phones though! Enjoy the moment!

there enjoyment is priceless

no where will you ever get Global people comming togeteher

and

much much better than, them damn wars

Politicians can deal with the countries economic problems, by other means,or should do?

Same here. I don't actually root against them....but kind of hope to see upsets.

You could say that most of our competing athletes are professional grade, but NBA players are purely professional.
