Just a thought - but isn't the American culture built on greed and envy? Isn't that why they have proved so great? Isn't everyone getting a bit bored of American Imperialism? - from a genuine spectator :)

ok..really...why all the anti americanism? we are far from perfect, but probably have done more good for the rest of the world in the last 100 years than any other country. true that we may have gotten a lot back from what we have done. but really, didn't the entire western world prosper and grow fat and rich along with us under the protection of the american nuclear umbrella in the last half of the 20th century? and as Britian has been our most steadfast ally over the last century (and shouldered the cost more than any other country) I find it odd that a comment like yours comes out of London. ok..cheap shot back..for a Brit to even think of using the word Imperialism is laughable! as you sit and enjoy the high standard of living that is a product of Britians 400+ years of Imperialism. funny thing ..I NEVER see anyone lamenting the wealth of the west actually giving it back. it's easy to offer phony assessemnts on other's greed as you yourself are going after it!

The more developed countries who have acess to big penis picures on the internet - namely the US and UK, Australia etc, but if the LEDCs had the acess we do to these things I do not think that they would be any more or less obsessed as we are.

Size obsession seems to be a new-ish thing since the internet came about, as now it can be discussed more frequently,

Possibly, dumbcow. But you know what one of the primary meat part ingredients is in most sausages -- especially 'Mericuhn hot dogs? Contrary to popular belief, it ain't chicken lips.

but unless you show me a whole society of men sitting around lamanting their self worth because of their pensis size your argument is purely academic.

I think the United States is one where men's self worth can be greatly affected by penis size. When I found out I was "big", at the age of 24, it was a huge ego boost, it made me feel more masculine. And I am one who is always advocating the importance of genital compatibility, rather than the "bigger is always better" motto because of my experiences. But I can't help it. I was taught to revere the big penis. It really does make me feel better about myself, even though it's no more relevant to my worth as a person, or even as a lover, than having a nice car. And when I have conversations with friends about my size, you can just see their faces go slack as their egos are crushed, even if they're average! It's completely ridiculous, especially because most of these guys I've talked to have had WAY more sex than I have.

It is the Cult of the Big Penis around here. I was curious if people thought maybe the US wasn't the worst for this.

This was exactly my thinking. I don't think size obsession was around as much before porn became so easily available and widely consumed.

Actually I believe that American culture is the most likely of all to survive.

First of all, American culture is dynamic: it changes and adapts. Moreover, there is not a very homogeneous concept of American culture - being American means many different things to many different people.

Furthermore, American culture is a culture of appropriation, individuality, and reshaping. It is a culture that can easily find its way into other cultures, and it similarly is constantly borrowing from other cultures. In many ways American culture is a universal donor of culture and a universal recipient.

If you were trying to be clever, you certainly did not succeed. Perhaps you would like to elaborate more on why you believe that American culture will eventually die? What do you believe American culture is?

One percent of the americans is in jail: CNN
That means 99% walks around free. That's quite dangerous: I don't think such culture can survive without putting the rest in prison.

I'm with unabear on the nudity angle. My wife and I started to take vacations to "clothing optional" resorts 3 years ago. I'd always wanted to but she was hesitant. Once we tried it at a place in Jamaica (no, not that swingers" place) we were immediately comfortable and loved how it felt to be nude publicly, in the sun and in the warm ocean. But I think how it was socially was the biggest surprise. Naked people are more friendly and we feel that there was way LESS self consciousness about bodies than there is at clothed beaches. I believe that obsession with penis size may be a natural male trait, but that if we went around naked more often all sorts of unhealthy body-obsessions and anxieties would diminish a whole lot. I can speak for myself that while I didn't have the biggest penis at any of the resorts we've been to, I was totally comfortable with what I have.

Most people who try naturism/nudism for the first time (in the right setting) report the same surprise with the degree of social comfort, friendliness, and "easy going-ness" of most people in a naturist setting. There is something about the absence of clothing that seems to break down many social barriers and pre-judgements (usually).

I think nudists would self-select for penis size average and above, just as they do in pornography. A very small man who was intensely bothered by his size simply wouldn't have the courage to go. I can't really speak to the effects of nudism on self-confidence, but if you look around the world it doesn't seem to me that cultures with a more liberal clothing policy are less size obsessed. If anything, I'd say MORE size obsessed the less clothing is dictated by the culture. America vs. India, just for example.

Like I said, the comment came from a spectator - I'm actually from Ireland so quite neutral. It is not my fault that my parents brought me up in London. I stay because of my career! Simple. I'm actually quite budhist on the whole history and situation, I believe in tempting fate and what goes around comes around and btw isn't greed a sin? I'm no-way greedy! Sounds like I hit a raw nerve .................... no offence!

I think it's more acceptable to talk openly about in the Western countries, but I'd guess that men everywhere have the same competitive and insecure nature regarding it.
